The Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG<.>), the first public and

private sector tourism partnership to be formed in Edinburgh, is

hosting a major industry event at the Edinburgh International

Conference Centre (EICC) today November 1, 2001 that will highlight how the

organisations involved are working together for the long term benefit of

tourism in the area.

ETAG Chairman Alastair McIntosh, Managing Director of the Scotch

Whisky Heritage Centre, and a Director of Edinburgh & Lothians Tourist

Board, said: 'This is a very challenging time for the tourism industry

and this conference is therefore of particular importance in offering those

involved in tourism an opportunity to get an update in the progress that

ETAG has made since it was founded almost a year ago. The effects of the

tragic events of 11th September are still unfolding and as a result we all

have to examine our strategies for the future.

'The key to ETAG's success is partnership and we strongly believe that this

is the most efficient way forward for the industry. This conference will

allow us to assess how far we have come – and how far we still have to go –

towards achieving our goals.'

Alastair McIntosh will give the opening presentation at the ETAG conference.

Other speakers at the event include Peter Lederer, Chairman of

VisitScotland, and Sarah Miller, Editor of Conde Nast Traveller magazine,

whose readers recently ranked Edinburgh as the UK's best city.
