ERA board met with European policy makers in Brussels

The meeting gave the ERA board the opportunity to discuss key issues that are impacting regional aviation in Europe on behalf of the association’s 52 airline members and over 120 aviation service providers.

Key European aviation regulators and policy makers from the European Commission, Eurocontrol and SESAR met with the board of the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) in Brussels yesterday morning, Tuesday 7 July, at an ERA executive breakfast meeting. Margus Rahuoja, director aviation and international transport affairs at the European Commission, along with a representative from the incoming Luxembourg presidency of the EU, were joined by the director general of Eurocontrol, the executive director of the SESAR Joint Undertaking and the managing director of the SESAR Deployment Manager.

The meeting gave the ERA board the opportunity to discuss key issues that are impacting regional aviation in Europe on behalf of the association’s 52 airline members and over 120 aviation service providers. Simon McNamara, director general ERA, comments: “The role that Europe’s regional aviation sector fulfils and the difficulties that it faces are often not well understood. Convening a meeting between industry practitioners and Europe’s aviation policy makers and regulators is just one of ERA’s strategic communication policies that is creating dialogue between ERA members and Europe’s aviation decision makers, enabling a better understanding of regional aviation.

“The crucial role that regional aviation plays in Europe must be better recognised. This key sector helps to fuel European economic development and fulfils an essential social function. Regional airlines are also vital for Europe’s network, low-cost carriers and freight integrators, acting as capacity providers and feeders to both the passenger and freight market. ERA’s role is to help promote and protect this essential sector.”

Margus Rahuoja comments: “The regular meetings with ERA’s board in Brussels are ideal opportunities to gain a better understanding of and build relationships with Europe’s regional aviation community. Connectivity is of great importance to Europe’s citizens and businesses and regional aviation plays a vital role in this. This year’s breakfast meeting with ERA’s board has further strengthened our excellent working relationship.”
