The Association of Turkish Travel Agencies, Tursab<.>, participated in the international Tourism Fair, 'Tourism Panorama', which took place in Athens-Greece from 26-29 April 2001.

The president of Tursab, Basaran Ulusoy, commenting on the presence of Tursab in the exhibition stated that, the last two years a number of events, frequent meetings including forums with the participation of top level public and private sectors representatives, had been seen on cooperation in tourism between Greece and Turkey.

'We, as the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies, Tursab, participated in many events as such and made efforts to further promote the relations between the two countries in our sphere of activities. We were therefore, very pleased to accept the kind invitation of 'Kalofolias Group' that has enabled our Association to be represented in this major event. We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for their kind gesture.'

'We are also pleased to observe that the representatives of public and private sectors of both parties expressed, on every occasion, their wish for cooperation, materialization of joint projects to promote tourism between the two countries as well as from the third ones. We believe, it is the right time to put those most encouraging ideas and words into action without any further delay.'

'Greece and Turkey are major tourist destinations of the Mediterranean region and of the world. Greece had started a rapid development long before Turkey did and indeed accomplished great success. Turkey has made a remarkable progress since mid 1980's, bringing the Turkish tourism to the centre point of interest in the international circles. The number of arrivals in Turkey reached a new record level of 10.428.000 by the end of 2000, while this figure was only 1.288.000 in 1980, representing an annual average increase of 12%. Evaluation of existing situation indicates that the number of foreign arrivals in Turkey will increase by some 20%over the last year taking the total to a new record level of 12.5 million arrivals by the end of this year'.

'We, Association of Turkish Travel Agencies, believe that the leaders and all members of tourist industry should make every possible efforts to promote tourism between Greece and Turkey, also to attract more tourists from the third countries by joint projects and try to make the Aegean, The Sea of Friendship and Peace. This will no doubt be of great benefit to both Greece and Turkey.'
