At its annual meeting in November 2003 the HCCE appointed a new board with a view to building on the growing success of the marketing alliance. For the first time the organisation elected a president, Hofburg Congress Center Managing Director Walter Straub, and a five-strong board consisting of CEOs of other member centres, each of whom will have a specific management function.

Previously based at Grazer Congress, to which it has been linked in legal and accounting terms, the HCCE now plans to establish itself as an independent association.

At this time in the HCCE`s history it is appropriate to recall the enduring contribution made by Grazer Congress and its General Manager Dr. Nikolaus Breisach. Not only was he the initiator and a co-founder, but it was his vision and know how of creating a brand, as well as hosting the head office during the difficult early years that enabled it to gain a foothold in the market.

As before, HCCE activities will include appearances at major trade shows such as the EIBTM, Imex and Confex, as well as sales drives in major European cities.

HCCE Executive Director Ingrid Behaghel von Flammerdinghe, who has run operations in Graz from the inception of the group in 1996 until now, will return to her original employment with Grazer Congress and will be focusing on new challenges. She commented on the changes: Taking stock of the eight years since the HCCE was founded in 1996, I feel a strong sense of achievement. The HCCE has established itself as a force to be reckoned within the conference business. Membership has come to be seen as a true `quality seal`, and this has translated into measurable success in terms of business. I hope that the new board, and the restructured organisation will be able to carry the momentum forward into the next stage of development.
