Responding to increasing demand for consulting services in the hotel and tourism industry sectors in Japan, Horwath Asia Pacific (HAP) has announced the opening of a new office in Tokyo effective as of 18 November 2002. The office opening follows on the conclusion of an agreement with Green House Co Ltd on 10 September 2002 for the establishment of a new HAP practice in Japan.

Green House is a total food service management company with business in contract food service, retail food & beverage outlets and food stuffs with an annual turnover in excess of US$440 million. Through Green House’s involvement with Cini-Little Japan, an alliance has also been established between HAP and Cini-Little International, which provides business and technical consulting for food & beverage facilities and operations.

The HAP Japan practice will be headed by Mr Shinichiro Kano who has had over 20 years of experience in the hotel industry during his tenure with Aoki Corporation. Joining him are three bilingual consultants with hotel operations experience and training under HAP directors in Hong Kong and Singapore.

The timing of this venture could not be better, explained HAP Managing Director, Mr Robert Hecker. Our experience with due diligence, valuations, repositioning planning and loan work outs will not doubt be put to good use in the current and proceeding market environment in Japan, which is poised to see more trading activity and clients needing to realize greater cash flow and value from their hotel assets.

The new Japan practice will be supported by HAP’s existing network of offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Jakarta, Sydney and Honolulu and coincides with the opening of new offices in Kuala Lumpur in October 2002 and Beijing in January 2003.

Adds Mr Hecker, We believe the resources and complementary businesses of Green House, the team and leadership of Mr Kano and the depth of support provided by the regional HAP and global Horwath network are well positioned to establish HAP as the leading provider of hotel and tourism consulting services in Japan.
