Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta has appointed Kip Hawley and Philip Brady as members of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA<.>) Management Advisory Council (MAC) Air Traffic Services Subcommittee. Bringing with them more than 50 years of combined experience in improving the nation`s transportation infrastructure, Hawley and Brady join the five-member panel that oversees the administration, management, conduct, direction and supervision of the nation`s air traffic control system.

It is with great admiration and respect that I put forward the appointments of Mr. Brady and Mr. Hawley, said Mineta. Meeting the safety and capacity demands of our future airspace system will require strategic direction. Throughout their careers, both these fine individuals have demonstrated a commitment and ability to provide innovative approaches to addressing tough transportation issues. On behalf the nation`s traveling public, I am pleased they have accepted this great responsibility.

Brady was appointed president of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) in June 2001, and will maintain that position while on the subcommittee. As president of NADA, he is responsible for all executive level operations and programs. Prior to joining NADA, he served six years as the vice president and general counsel for the American Automobile Manufacturers Association. Brady worked in the White House as assistant to the president and staff secretary from 1991 to 1993, and in the Department of Transportation as general counsel from 1989 to 1991. From 1985 to 1989 he held various capacities in the executive branch and Congress. A cum laude graduate of both the University of Notre Dame and Loyola University of School of law, Brady practiced law in California before coming to Washington.

Most recently, Hawley provided services and expertise in development of the newly created Transportation Security Administration. Currently, Hawley is serving as executive vice president of corporate development for Arzoon, Inc. and will maintain that position while serving on the air traffic panel. There he oversees the company`s effort to forge major alliances and partnerships with air carriers, shippers, and other transportation service providers. Prior to joining Arzoon, Hawley was president and chief executive officer of Skyway Freight Systems, an air cargo company. From 1987 to 1995, he served in several executive capacities at the Union Pacific Corp. Beginning in 1981 he held senior positions at the White House and Department of Transportation. Hawley has a law degree from the University of Virginia and bachelor of arts degree from Brown University.

The Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century (AIR-21), established the Air Traffic Services Subcommittee of the FAA MAC in 2001. Members are appointed based on their expertise in management of large service organizations, customer services, large procurements, information technology, organizational development, and labor relations.

Specifically, the panel has direct oversight and approval responsibility of FAA air traffic contracts totaling more than $100,000.

The appointments of Hawley and Brady fill vacancies on the five-member subcommittee for fixed four-year and three-year terms.
