Registration for the 2005 National Tour Association Annual Convention in Detroit opened yesterday with record-breaking results. With the 686 first-day registrations surpassing last year`s first-day total, it`s easy to see that the NTA Annual Convention in Detroit is the place to do business in the packaged travel industry.

As part of the association`s ongoing efforts to Maxximize member business opportunities, the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau is offering a two-year lease on a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx. The prizewinner will be selected in a random drawing conducted during the Annual Convention. No purchase is necessary for this contest. To be eligible, participants must be an employee of an NTA tour operator member company, register for the 2005 NTA Convention during early bird registration and participate in pre-scheduled appointments in the Tour & Travel Exchange. All entries must be received by July 8, 2005.

Also, all Convention attendees have the opportunity to enter a transportation survey giveaway by providing their arrival/departure information to the host city. All Convention attendees that respond to the online survey by Oct. 3, 2005, will be eligible to win. The grand prize is a complimentary registration to the 2006 NTA Annual Convention in Salt Lake City and a $500 shopping spree at Great Lakes Crossing Mall, including shuttle service from downtown Detroit. The second place prize is a $500 shopping spree at Fairlane Town Center, also including shuttle service from downtown Detroit.

The city of Detroit and its hospitality partners are prepared to welcome NTA with red carpet hospitality and outstanding events and venues, Larry Alexander, president and CEO of the Detroit Metro CVB, said. Our NTA host committee and our city has been preparing for this convention for several years. With $30 billion of new development in our region, including new attractions, restaurants and entertainment options, we have never been more ready to host this influential group.

There also are several enhancements to the Convention format this year. For example, there will be a 30-minute appointment scheduling session at the beginning of each Tour & Travel Exchange day that allows attendees to schedule additional appointments onsite for the respective day. The Tour & Travel Exchange consists of nearly 65,000 seven-minute appointments during which destinations and tour suppliers sell their area or services to tour companies.
