From 14-16 April, Brussels becomes the Centre of Change for the European meeting industry as the city hosts Meeting Professionals International`s (MPI<.>) 2002 Professional Education Conference-Europe, an event known as Europe`s largest annual gathering of industry professionals.

Focused on Knowledge and Networking for a Changing Europe, the conference features content on the sweeping economic and technological changes in Europe to empower professionals with education and tools critical for survival and growth in unprecedented times.

With a multitude of changes occurring in Europe and throughout the world, today`s meeting professional faces increasing challenges to deliver value and a proven return on investment for their clients and organizations, said Edwin L. Griffin, Jr., CAE, president/CEO of MPI, the global authority and resource for the meeting industry. What better city than Brussels, the center of European change, to host this year`s PEC-Europe? And the new, `this-year-only` registration offerings make it easier for members and non-members to participate in this historically important knowledge exchange.

A Wealth of Knowledge

PEC-Europe offers more than 20 sessions covering outsourcing, meeting management, legal issues, technology, sales and marketing, and skills and business development for basic, intermediate and advanced skill levels. New to the conference is an extra executive track for senior professionals focused on negotiation and leadership and a specialized incentive track in conjunction with the Society of Incentive Travel Executives (SITE).

Keynote presentations from some of Europe`s foremost political and technological leaders, including Ray Hammond, Didier Reynders and Bertrand Piccard will focus on the economic movement in Europe and the resulting impact upon meeting-related industries. In addition, Roeland Vos, president of Europe, Middle East and Africa for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., will highlight Starwood-identified trends, challenges and opportunities for the European meeting industry.

Attendees also will benefit from two highly interactive forums on Defining the Power of Meetings and industry trends, as well as case study presentations on the longer-term impact of 9/11 on the industry. An on-site Chapter Leadership Conference is the chance for MPI European chapter leaders to engage in a peer-to-peer information exchange to enhance the value of membership for MPI`s 1,200 members throughout Europe.

PEC-Europe networking opportunities include a welcome reception at Brussels Parliament; a cocktail reception and Brussels Beer & Jazz Rally Dine Around at Brussels Town Hall – Grand Place; and final night dinner and entertainment at AutoWorld.

The annual MPI Foundation fundraiser party, Rendez-vous Europe, will be held at Les Jeux D`hiver. Proceeds will support the MPI Foundation`s body of research, development and study of emerging trends.
