1250 delegates from 38 countries honored three of their colleagues for outstanding achievement in the business travel industry at the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) Global Education Conference in Miami.

Elizabeth Wada, Managing Director, FurWa Strategic Planning; and Margaret Hansen, Global Procurement, Director Corporate Travel, for AT Kearney were presented with the associations prestigious Advancing the Industry Award. Michael Hall, Global Travel Manager for Johnson Controls, is the first to receive the new ACTE Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award.

ACTE takes pride in being the leading international educational association for business travel industry leaders. Yet even among this select group there are those who distinguish themselves through service to their colleagues and to the industry, said ACTE President Elect Richard Crum, President and CEO of AirPlus International. Assisting him in the bestowing of the awards was Bruce Finch, Senior Manager, Global Travel Services, AutoDesk, Inc.

ACTE`s Advancing The Industry Award signifies a shared contribution in innovative travel management, process development, or a major conceptual exchange between components of the travel management profession.

Elizabeth Wada was instrumental in establishing ACTE in Latin America, and in bringing the corporate contribution of travel management executives in the region into the international limelight. She was presented with the Advancing the Industry Award, for her efforts in demonstrating how ACTE`s education and advocacy efforts can meet corporate objectives for growth and profitability in Latin America.

Richard Crum described travel industry veteran Margaret Hansen as the personification of volunteer leadership and professional commitment. A former ACTE board member, steering committee participant, speaker, panelist, and event moderator since 1998, Hansen is also known for her best-in-class global travel program. According to the award citation, Hansen made it possible for her colleagues and this association to benefit from access to AT Kearney`s intellectual capital. This cumulative endeavor earned her the Advancing The Industry Award for the United States.

New for this year is the ACTE Corporate Social Responsibility Award, presented to an industry leader who promotes sustainable travel programs that respect both the environment and the traveler, and moreover make their company a better world citizen and preferred business partner.

Michael Hall has been a proponent of corporate social responsibility years before it appeared in the headlines. He began by studying the impact of aircraft emissions on the environment, and systematically included other areas in which business travel could reduce its carbon footprint or consumption of resources. His approach to CSR is now a component of Johnson Controls` hotel program, which is focused on water and energy conservation in preferred properties.

ACTE`s Corporate Social Responsibility Award was presented by Richard Tams, General Manager, UK & Global Corporate Sales for British Airways. British Airways has taken the lead as ACTE`s most prominent partner in CSR endeavors, and played a prominent role in assisting the association with its carbon reduction calculator programs, paper-free conferences and forums, and environmentally sensitive conferences through 2008.
