The Association of Greek Tourist Enterprises (SETE<.>) recently published the results of a comparative study on tourism traffic between Athens and Istanbul.

The survey, sponsored by Aegean Airlines, began with an analysis of the tourism offer which covered hotel bed capacity, infrastructure catering to convention and trade fair organisation, airport and port services. It then focused on demand and listed figures on overnight stays in both cities, arrivals, hotel occupancy rates and airport traffic. Finally, it looked at future prospects and the problems both cities face.

This report forms part of SETE`s research efforts this year which include the release of a report on taxation of the Greek tourism industry, most likely in the last week of May. As part of a wider study of Greece`s competitors expected to be published in mid-June, SETE is also looking at the development of Egypt`s tourism sector.

Next to come under the association`s microscope will be tourism and employment. This report aims to document, in quantitative and qualitative terms, the demand for and supply of jobs in tourism while also forming proposals to boost job creation in this sector.
