Sharjah unveils a more attractive and exotic Water Festival this year

Global events good opportunity to showcase the Emirate, says Al Noman.

SHARJAH – The Sharjah Water Festival 2012, the grand entertainment and family fun spectacle, will be held from December 6 to 21 for the sixth consecutive year at Al Majaz Park and Khalid Lagoon. This was announced by HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority at a press conference in the presence of a number of dignitaries, support sponsors and members of the media.

Al Noman said that the festival this year features a number of new events and recreational activities offering world-class, wholesome fun for the whole family.  As in the past, the SWF 2012 will begin on a high note with the F1H20 World Powerboat Championship, Sharjah Grand Prix, on December 6 and 7 in Khalid Lagoon.

Al Majaz Park on the other hand will be the venue of a number of entertainment shows, games and recreational activities from December 12 to 21.

The highlight of the activities at Al Majaz Park this year will be the internationally acclaimed Russian Circus with breathtaking feats on water (Magic of Water), The Ohmies American musical, Sinbad’s Adventures, Mouj Fantasy Show, Puppetry shows from Myanmar and Poland, Toy Box shows, (USA), Arlecchino and the Witch Rosega Ramani, Roaming musicians and Carnival etc.

Speaking on the occasion, the SCTDA Chairman Al Noman said that Sharjah continues to grow and wow the world with its unique brand of cultural tourism. Referring to the emirate’s selection as the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2015 by Arab tourism ministers, he said these achievements have been made possible because of the vision and guidance of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the continuous support of HH Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

Al Noman said, “the Sharjah Water Festival last year drew more than 180,000 visitors bringing loads of fun and joy to the emirate for ten days. This year we at the SCTDA are working tirelessly to bring to you a festival more memorable and grander and successful than ever.”

He added, “We have been promoting the SWF this year in and outside the country at various international exhibitions and road shows hosted by the Authority.  We have also showcased Sharjah’s festivals in local and international media besides inviting international media to come and witness the events and attractions for themselves. As in the past, the festival has been promoted by way of visits to schools and by setting up promotional platforms in shopping malls and tourist attractions in the emirate.”

The emirate will once again be in the spotlight as it hosts the Sharjah Grand Prix for the 13th consecutive year in Khaled Lagoon waters. The event every year attracts more than 75,000 spectators.  Sharjah won the UIM Best Organiser Award for five years—in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007–and the World Journalism Award in 2001 for its successful organisation of the event.

The SCTDA Chairman thanked the SWF sponsors, partners and the media for their continued support hoping their patronage will make the festival this year even more successful. The support sponsors and partners this year include Sharjah Police, Civil Defence Department, Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, Public Works Department, Environment and Protected Areas Authority, Seaports and Customs Authority, Department of Culture and Information (Directorate of Heritage) Sharjah Transport and Sharjah Call Centre, Mega Mall, Sahara Centre, Panasonic, Air Arabia, Al Zahra Hospital, Zulal Water, Hotel Corniche Al Buhaira, Golden Tulip, Sharjah, Sharjah Media Corporation, Al Khaleej newspaper and Al Hayat FM.
