The European Aquaculture Society to hold its conference at the Palacongressi di Rimini

Fabio De Santis, IEG Event & Conference Director.

The Italian Exhibition Group location chosen for the 2022 edition scheduled from 27 to 30 September.

RIMINI – Another major accomplishment on the international congress front for Italian Exhibition Group. Hot on the heels of the Palacongressi di Rimini being assigned organisation of the 29th congress of the European College of Sport Science (3-5 July 2024), the hard work of the Events & Conference division of IEG led to the Rimini venue also winning the bid for the conference of the European Aquaculture Society (EAS), a European company linked to the development of marine and freshwater aquaculture, scheduled for 27 to 30 September 2022. "Over the three days of the congress " explains Fabio De Santis, IEG Event & Conference Director "we expect to welcome more than 1,500 professionals, farmers, researchers, consultants, students and industrialists from the world of aquaculture from all over Europe". The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will also intervene, thanks to the participation of Alessandro Lovatelli, its head of fisheries and aquaculture, as chair of the conference.

The awarding of Aquaculture Europe AE 2022 is the result of the extensive network of collaboration that Italian Exhibition Group boasts in the wake of its organization of the leading European event in the field of green economy, namely Ecomondo, and in particular with A.M.A. (Mediterranean Aquaculture Association) and its President, Giuseppe Prioli, along with the University of Rome Tor Vergata and ISPRA – Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research. Recent editions took place in 2018 in Montpellier and in 2019 in Berlin. The 2020 edition, however, was postponed due to the Covid 19 pandemic, and will be held online in April 2021, while the next event in person is scheduled for October 2021 in Madeira, then coming Rimini in 2022.

According to a report recently published by FAO, aquaculture is the fastest growing food production sector worldwide. In the FAO's own review of the state of development of aquaculture in the European area (under progress), the industrial sector is also expected to grow, providing new business and employment opportunities.

The European Aquaculture Society is a European society whose purpose is to promote contacts between all those involved or interested in marine and freshwater aquaculture; to facilitate the circulation of information relating to aquaculture; to promote the sponsorship of multi-disciplinary research on aquaculture; to enhance cooperation between governmental, scientific and commercial organizations and individuals in all matters dealing with aquaculture.
