The Travel Institute announced that it will welcome all travel professionals to join its community of knowledge and insight, thereby establishing an inclusive new interpretation of membership. The change is part of the Institute’s broader effort to extend its core educational mission and reach all travel professionals.

Under its previous ICTA organizational banner, The Travel Institute permitted only those who earned the Certified Travel Counselor (CTC) or Certified Travel Associate (CTA) designations to benefit from membership. With this new initiative, membership in the Institute is now open to all truly vested travel professionals who want to benefit from The Institute’s programs.

“The Travel Institute launched an innovative new strategy that builds upon a long and wonderful legacy, and takes full advantage of the new industry landscape,” said David Preece, CTC, president and CEO. “A major theme of our new direction is inclusiveness, so we felt it was appropriate to evolve our membership structure to invite professionals from across the industry to join our community.”

The new affiliation structure makes a clear distinction between membership and professional certification. There will be one member category with annual dues and benefits that are the same for every member. However, those who have made the additional investment to certify as a CTA or CTC have earned unique privileges by distinguishing themselves as standard bearers. They will accordingly receive a variety of added special benefits and privileges. The membership period will also now be based on a January-December calendar year rather than a July-June fiscal year.

According to Preece, “We believe this new direction not only increases professional development opportunities for everyone, but also provides them access to an extended community of professionals with whom to share values, ideas and insight. This expanded interaction will benefit the industry as a whole, including certified professionals, and ultimately better serve the needs of the traveling public.”
