Senior Members of Parliament and Government, along with representatives from the private sector and key media from the region will gather in Agra this weekend for a Retreat organised by The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC<.>) highlighting India’s commitment to Travel & Tourism.

Mr Jean-Claude Baumgarten, President of WTTC, will deliver the welcoming address to over ninety delegates today, Friday August 23. Delegates will be briefed on the impact of September 11, 2002 on Travel & Tourism. In particular, the recent threat of war between India and Pakistan will be highlighted as Mr Baumgarten will reveal that the seven International Guest Speakers have been specifically invited to this event because of their experience in crisis management.

Mr Yogesh Chandra, Secretary General of WTTC India, has said that WTTC is proud to gather together such key industry representatives. It is the role of the Council to facilitate dialogue between the Government and the private sector as it is through working together that we have a better chance to address the barriers to tourism development. I am confident that this high-level gathering will go a long way towards furthering tourism in India.

The spectacular setting of the Amarvilas Hotel in Agra, an Oberoi Group hotel is host to the retreat. Each room overlooks the majestic Taj Mahal, an auspicious setting for such key delegates focusing on increasing Travel & Tourism to India.

The World Travel & Tourism Council is the forum for global business leaders in Travel & Tourism comprising the Presidents, Chairs and CEOs of 100 of the world’s foremost companies. It is the only body representing the private sector in all parts of the Travel & Tourism industry worldwide.
