Air Serbia commemorates 95 years since Aaeroput’s first flight

In 2022, Air Serbia carried a total of 2.76 million passengers on scheduled and charter flights.

Air Serbia, the successor of the first national airline Aeroput, is commemorating 95 years since its inaugural flight, which was performed between Belgrade and Zagreb on 15 February 1928. Potez-29 biplane with a 450-hp engine and a top speed of 175 km/h took flight on that day at 9:00 in the morning from Zemun airport, and after two hours it landed in Zagreb. In the airplane named Belgrade, in addition to the pilot, there were five journalists and five photo reporters who documented the event.

Aeroput’s inaugural flight was preceded by two years of planning, preparation, and fundraising to successfully realize this brave idea.

“Aeroput and Tadija Sondermajer wrote history 95 years ago. It wasn’t easy to establish and develop civil aviation at the time when there was fear of airplanes and numerous prejudices regarding this type of transport. Their vision remains admirable to this day. As the proud successor of the first national airline, we are trying to build our future on the foundation of tradition. We are growing and developing, aiming to offer our passengers even more comfortable trips and better connections. In 2023 alone, we will launch more than 20 new destinations, compared to the previous year. We hope that our efforts will allow us to write a new history for our company”, said Air Serbia CEO Jiri Marek.

In 2022, Air Serbia carried a total of 2.76 million passengers on scheduled and charter flights, operating 31,420 flights in total from three international airports in Serbia – its Belgrade hub, as well as Niš and Kraljevo airports, expanding the network by adding 15 new destinations and
seven new aircraft to the fleet.

For seven consecutive months, from July 2022, the company continues to post record monthly results in terms of passengers carried.
