In the eighth month of 2024, Katowice Airport saw 5,795 aircraft operations, i.e. 365 more (+6.7%) than in August 2023.
The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL S.A.) – the company managing Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice, Poland – has summarised passenger traffic for the eighth month of 2024.
August 2024 was the best month in the history of the airport. 866,489 passengers were handled, i.e. 90,437 more (+11.6%) in comparison with the eighth month of 2023, and 19,079 more (+2.2%) than in July 2024 – the previous best month in the airport’s history.
325,890 passengers – 23.442 more (+7.7%) than last year – were served on regular flights, which are operated at Katowice Airport by Wizz Air, Ryanair, LOT Polish Airlines and Air Dolomiti/Lufthansa. Flights connecting Pyrzowice and Dortmund, London-Luton, London-Stansted, Eindhoven and Frankfurt were the most popular.
In August 2024, 537,523 passengers were served on charter flights, which are handled on behalf of travel agencies, i.e. 65,313 more (+13.8%) than in August 2023. Passengers most often travelled on holiday from Katowice Airport to Antalya, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Djerba and Burgas. In August 2024, more than 115,000 passengers were noted on flights to Antalya. Never before have so many passengers been handled on one route in a single month.

From January to the end of August 2024, the airport handled 4,329,808 passengers, i.e. 551,252 more (+14.6%) than last year. On 19 August (Monday), Katowice Airport served the four millionth passenger in 2024; never before have so many passengers been handled so quickly in the airport’s history. The previous best result – achieved on 10 September 2023 – was surpassed.
In the first eight months of 2024, the airport noted 32,757 take-offs and landings, i.e. 2,310 more (+7.6%) than the year before.
“A great peak of the summer season has concluded at Katowice Airport. In September, passengers will continue to eagerly fly to and from Katowice Airport, resulting in approx. 770,000 handled passengers. We estimate that the five millionth passenger will be handled near the end of September 2024. More than 6.2 million passengers will travel via the airport’s network in 2024,” said Artur Tomasik, the President of the Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL S.A.).
