Continental Airlines announced it will begin new weekly nonstop service between Houston`s George Bush Intercontinental Airport and the Caribbean island of Bonaire in the Netherlands Antilles, on Dec. 16, 2005, pending government approval. The readers of Scuba Diving magazine recently voted Bonaire the top diving destination in the Caribbean/Atlantic.

The weekly flight will depart Houston on Fridays at 11:30 p.m., arriving in Bonaire at 6:15 a.m. on Saturday. The return flight will depart Bonaire on Saturdays at 8 a.m., arriving in Houston at 10:50 a.m. Continental will utilize a Boeing 737 aircraft with seating for 12 in first class and 112 in coach on the approximately five-hour flight.

Bonaire will be Continental`s 19th Caribbean destination, and its 68th destination in Latin America and the Caribbean. Continental will be the only airline with nonstop service from the U.S. mainland or Canada to Bonaire, located approximately 50 miles off the coast of Venezuela.

The only thing that has hampered enjoyment of Bonaire has been the difficulty of getting there, said Pete Garcia, Staff Vice President, Latin America, Continental Airlines. We are very pleased to add Bonaire to Continental`s growing list of diving markets. If you want prime diving or just to explore a tranquil natural paradise in the Caribbean Sea, Bonaire is a must.

Bonaire also is known for snorkeling, windsurfing, sailing and ecotourism, as well as its marine preservation efforts including the 270-hectare (667-acre) Bonaire Marine Park, established in 1979.
