Continental Airlines announced it will begin nonstop Saturday service on Dec. 17 from its hub at Newark Liberty International Airport to the Caribbean island of Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles, pending governmental approval.

With the addition of Curacao, Continental will offer nonstop service to 20 destinations in the Caribbean. New nonstop service between Houston and Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles, Continental`s 19th Caribbean destination, begins on Dec. 16.

The Saturday flight to Curacao will depart Newark at 8:50 a.m., arriving in Curacao at 2:35 p.m. The return flight will depart Curacao on Saturdays at 3:20 p.m., arriving in Newark at 7:20 p.m. Continental will utilize a Boeing 737-700 aircraft with seating for 12 in first class and 112 in coach for the flight.

Located off the coast of Venezuela, Curacao consistently is ranked in the top 10 overall dive sites in the Caribbean. In addition to 30 public and private beaches with an abundance of colorful undersea life, Curacao boasts numerous other activities: sailing, snorkeling, and boat tours; the historic town of Willemstad; and eco-tourism attractions such as Christoffel Park, a protected wildlife preserve and garden; coral reef living caves; camping and an ostrich farm.

We`re very pleased to round out our nonstop service to the `ABC` Islands: Aruba, which we already serve from Newark and Houston, and now Bonaire and Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles, said Frank Galan, Continental`s Senior Regional Director for the Caribbean and Central America.
