Everything Travel Store -with Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology- debuts at PHL

Just Walk Out technology eliminates checkout lines so guests can enjoy a frictionless shopping experience, followed by a stress-free journey to their designated gates.

PHILADELPHIA – Passengers at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) now have an even wider array of shopping locations to choose from, as PHL Food & Shops welcomes Everything Travel, the airport’s newest retail option for travel accessories.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the official opening of Everything Travel will take place on May 10 at 10 a.m. in front of the store, located in Terminal D.

Everything Travel is powered by Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology. The one-stop storefront leverages artificial intelligence to offer a seamless shopping solution for all last-minute travel needs – hence, its catchphrase, “If you forgot it, we got it!”

Just Walk Out technology eliminates checkout lines so guests can enjoy a frictionless shopping experience, followed by a stress-free journey to their designated gates. To enter the Everything Travel store, customers simply use their credit card at the entry gates. The technology detects what shoppers take from or return to the shelves and creates a virtual shopping session. When guests have completed their shopping experience, they leave the store without having to wait in line, and their chosen payment method will be charged for the items they selected.

“SLA Worldwide is excited to collaborate with Amazon to bring Just Walk Out technology to the Philadelphia Airport,” said Sandra Long, founder and CEO at SLA Worldwide. “At our Everything Travel store, guests will experience the future of frictionless shopping.”

“It’s exciting to offer this new, innovative shopping option for travelers at PHL,” said Mel Hannah, Vice President and General Manager of MarketPlace PHL. “Checkout-free shopping offers passengers and employees at PHL a quick, convenient way to purchase items without having to wait in line to pay.”

Just Walk Out technology is made possible by artificial intelligence, such as computer vision and deep learning, to accurately determine who took what in any retail environment.

“With an award-winning food, beverage and retail program, the team at Philadelphia International Airport is always looking for new ways to enhance the travel experience,” said Jon Jenkins, VP of Just Walk Out technology by Amazon. “Opening a store powered by Just Walk Out technology offers travelers at PHL a fast and frictionless way to shop for essentials and continue on to their destination.”
