International conference on aviation regionals 2002 in Muscat, Oman

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Hussain of Jordan is expected to attend a two-day international conference on Regionals, which will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Director General of Civil Aviation and Meteorology, Sultanate of Oman<.> on January 21 and 22, 2002.



This will be the first global conference to be held on subject in this region since the events of September 11 adversely affected the industry. The conference which is being held at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel will be inaugurated by HE Mohammed Bin Abdulla Al Harthy, Under Secretary Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Sultanate of Oman. According to a Press statement by the Middle East Aviation Journal, organisers of the conference, speakers from major aviation agencies like IATA, JAA and ERA would be flying in to address the delegates from the GCC and Middle East. Among the speakers are Akbar Al Baker, CEO Qatar Airways, Mike Ambrose, Director General, ERA,Leon Clark, Corporate Vice President, IATA, Francois Janvier, JAA International Co-ordinator,Colin Hobbs, CEO Seeb and Salalah Airports, Dr. Majdi Sabri, Regional Director, Member & Industry Relations, IATA, Carlo Logli,Vice President Sales & Marketing of ATR , Peter Huijbers, Director Project Management of Lufthansa Technik and Peter Klonk, President, Dogmach Group, Fairchild Dornier representative in the ME.



The delegates attending the conference would represent governments, carriers, travel agencies, financial institutions and airport authorities as well as maintenance and engineering outfits. Sponsors for the two-day conference, the fourth in the series will include aircraft manufacturers ATR, maintenance experts Lufthansa Technik and the Dogmoch Group who represent Fairchild Dornier in this region, Lufthansa Airlines and Oman Air. Earlier conferences on Regionals have been held in Dubai UAE, Amman in Jordan and Sharm El Shaikh in Egypt with great success. His Highness Prince Faisal attended all the earlier sessions.



Subjects that will come up for debate will include the importance of Regional networks in the hub and spoke concept, the need to accurately choose the aircraft mix and a call on the region to upgrade its co-operation levels. There will also be discussions on the present situation and how to combat the fallout and plan for the future.
