The international airlines in the Japan Airlines Group, Japan Airlines, Japan Air System, Japan Asia Airways and JALways have filed with the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation for approval of a proposed 3% fare increase agreed in mid-March by the member airlines of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The 3% increase, subject to government approval, will apply to fares for flights departing and arriving in Japan and is aimed at covering the significant exceptional cost increases currently being faced by the airline industry, including rising fuel costs and security expenses.

The fare increase applies to all carriers in the market and takes effect from April 15, 2003.

In principle the 3% increase – or its equivalent- applies to all fares (first class, business class and economy class).
