Katowice Airport achieved a historic milestone in September 2024, handling 782,811 passengers, marking a 10.9% increase from the previous year.
The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL SA) – the company managing Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice, Poland – has summarised passenger traffic for the ninth month of 2024.
In September 2024, Katowice Airport recorded a total of 782 811 passengers, i.e. 76 755 more (+10.9%) in comparison with the result achieved last year. It was the best ninth month in the airport’s history; the previous record for September was noted in 2023, when 706 036 passengers were handled.
302,336 passengers were noted on scheduled flights, which are handled at the Airport by Wizz Air, Ryanair, LOT Polish Airlines and Air Dolomiti (the carrier operates flights for Lufthansa); that’s 23 361 passengers more (+8.4%) than in September 2023. 478 396 passengers were served on charter flights, i.e. 52 348 more (+12.3%) than last year.
In September 2024, 5,526 aircraft takeoffs and landings were noted at Katowice Airport, i.e. 326 more (+6.3%) than in September 2023.
“In September, Katowice Airport handled the five millionth passenger in 2024; we achieved it on the 26 day of the month. We have noted such a result for the second time in our history; last year, we served the five millionth passenger on 3 November. 2024 will be record-breaking for our airport. We expect to handle the six millionth passenger in a single calendar year for the first time in the airport’s history in the first half of December. We aim to conclude 2024 with over 6.2M served passengers,” said Artur Tomasik, President of the Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL SA), the company managing Katowice Airport.
Between January and the end of September, the Airport noted 5 112 619 passengers on regular and charter flights, i.e. 628 027 more (+14.0%) than last year. 2 387 268 passengers were noted on scheduled flights – 138 661 more (+6.2%) than in 2023 – while 2 708 501 travellers flew on charter flights: 488 344 more (+22.0%) than in 2023.
During the first nine months of 2024, Katowice Airport noted 38 283 takeoffs and landings, 2 636 more (+7.4%) than in 2023.

Katowice Airport is among the biggest regional airports in Poland. In 2023, record-breaking 5.6M passengers travelled via the airport’s network of flights. The forecast for 2024 estimates that over 6.2M passengers will be handled, the most in the history of Katowice Airport. Katowice Wojciech Korfanty Internatnional Airport is the country leader when it comes to charter traffic, and one of the biggest cargo airports in Poland.
