Passenger traffic grows at Katowice Airport record-breaking April 2023

236,782 passengers, i.e. 43 469 more (+22.5%) than during the fourth month of 2022, flew on regular flights offered by Wizz Air, Ryanair, LOT Polish Airlines and Lufthansa.

The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL SA) – the company managing Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice – has summarised passenger traffic for the fourth month of 2023.

In April 2023, Katowice Wojciech Korfanty Airport handled a total of 320,524 passengers, i.e. 69,314 more (+27.6%) in comparison with the same time period last year. It was the best fourth month in the history of the airport; Katowice Airport has surpassed the result from April 2019, when 302 783 travellers were served.

236,782 passengers, i.e. 43 469 more (+22.5%) than during the fourth month of 2022, flew on regular flights offered by Wizz Air, Ryanair, LOT Polish Airlines and Lufthansa. Passengers most often travelled from Katowice Airport to Dortmund, London-Luton, London-Stansted, Eindhoven and Warsaw during that time.

81,633 travellers flew on charter flights handled for travel agencies, i.e. 24,877 more (+43.8%) in comparison with the same time period in 2022. Passengers most often flew to Antalya, Marsa Alam, Hurghada, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria.

Last month, aircraft took off and landed 2,994 times at Katowice Airport, that’s 108 operations more (+3.7%) than last year.

During the first four months of 2023, Katowice Airport handled 1,115,529 passengers, i.e. 397.733 more (+55.4%) in comparison to the same time period in 2022. The first four months of 2023 were the best in the airport’s history. Thus far, the best result for the first four months came from 2019, when 1,015,169 passengers were served at Katowice Airport.

“The first full month of the ‘Summer 2023’ schedule was record-breaking for Katowice Airport. Passengers travel from our airport on both regular and charter flights, thanks to a rich summer network, which during the peak of the season will cover 107 routes to 29 countries, including 58 charter routes,” said Artur Tomasik, the President of the Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL SA).
