RwandAir announces schedule change effective Aug 1, 2010

RwandAir announced changes in its schedule that come into effect immediately. Notable changes on the schedule include earlier departures of 1000HRS (Local time Kigali) to Johannesburg every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. However the carrier will operate an even earlier departure of 0100HRS (Local time Kigali) to Johannesburg every Thursday giving travelers a same day return flight to and from the South Africa capital.

Travelers with onward connections at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi will now be served with an early morning departure out of Kigali at 0400HRS (Local time Kigali) to reach Nairobi at 0615HRS (Local time Nairobi). The late afternoon flight to Nairobi will now leave Kigali at 1600HRS (Local time Kigali). Also notable on the schedule is the introduction of a double daily frequency to Bujumbura with the first departure at 0600HRS(Local time Kigali). The carrier has also introduced a fourth frequency on Sunday to Kilimanjaro. The domestic destination Kamembe will still be served by daily flights departing from Kigali at 0800HRS (Local time Kigali).

While announcing the changes, RwandAir CEO Rene Janata said “This is not a complete overhaul of our schedule but we have made adjustments on our timing to ensure better connections while we incorporate as much feedback as possible from the market. Secondly, in the past we have largely been a point to point carrier and would like to move to a network carrier as we expand our fleet.”

“Bottom line is we want to ensure our partners and travelers have convenience and benefits of better connections on our direct destinations an even the regional hubs we fly to like Nairobi and Johannesburg” he added.

The national carrier expects to take delivery of its second Boeing 737-500 within the month bringing its total fleet size to five aircraft, which includes two Boeing 737-500, two Bombardier CRJ and a Dash 8. The two new Boeing 737-800 from Boeing Commercial Airplanes are expected to join the RwandAir fleet in 2011.
