Global tourism pie: Regional shares at a glance

The incredible rise of the Global TT Industry can be reported and magnitude of change can be measured delicately within the last decade. At a glance, we are presenting the summary of this ‘big picture’ here.

We must realize the clear fact that, WTTC has developed a fantastic device that reports the tourism revenues of all countries. This system is evolving with more appropriate data collection from each source, within increased emphasis on TSA Tourism Satellite Account, which is in effect since long years. Thus, the incredible rise of the Global TT Industry can be reported and magnitude of change can be measured delicately within the last decade. At a glance, we are presenting the summary of this ‘big picture’ here.

Infact, we had previously given this service 41 Months before and related article was introduced here [*1], covering a 30 years of two recent decades and one projected, with distribution to 12 Global Regions. But since the global attention was not so high and macro outlook was narrower 3,5 Years before, expected interest was rather weak. Now, revising the same figures with compressed regional varience, will give more sophisticated and useful perceptions on the Glabal growth and dynamic changes in shares of TT Pie.

It is useful to recall the well known recent global decleration that “Western regions are expected to loose shares, where Asian regions are potentially to rise”after 2010”, but the size and distribution of this event was not clearly identified and expressed. Here, within our “summarized approach” we can clearly ‘present this vital event’ and even analyze the positions of rising Asian Countries in more detail. In order to simplify the perception of 12 sub-regions, reducing this into 4 main regions, we can enjoy our following tables.

The most impressive results of this analysis can be summarized as: Within the current decade, the global tourism receipts are expected to grow over 80%, where Western destinations are expected to realize a growth below this average, resulting a net transfer of 11,5 percent total share from the West to the East. The major part of this transfer is to be received by Asian and 7,5 percent of this addition goes to SEVEN Countries of North East Asia, with a total share increased to 24,8% where China is the leader of this group.
We must expect WTTC and UNWTO to analyze the details of this magnificient change, in the near future.
