Davos: An impressive palette of attractions

Experience the dynamic spirit of Davos, Europe’s highest-altitude resort, or enjoy peace and solitude in the unspoilt mountain world on your doorstep. Guests from all over the world fall under the spell of this famous Swiss Alpine metropolis. Davos is diverse: a holiday, sports, congress, health, research and culture resort rolled into one.

Davos is ideal for an active holiday in a magnificent mountain setting. Whether summer or winter, almost every type of sport is catered for Skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, sledging and ice-sports in winter. Hiking, running, mountain biking, golfing and water sports in summer. Tennis, squash, riding, hang-gliding and paragliding are year-round attractions. Major events such as the Swiss Alpine Marathon and the Spengler Cup ice hockey tournament are just two highlights from an impressive palette of sporting attractions.

Over the last 35 years, Davos has firmly established itself as a successful and competitive international congress venue despite its slightly peripheral location. The town’s strong point lies in its contrast to the conventional congress resort and in the captivating combination of education and relaxation far from the bustle of big city life. Davos is the perfect place to meet people, exchange knowledge, enjoy sport, relax and unwind.

But Davos has also remained a health resort. The town’s many clinics are now highly specialized institutes, expert in the treatment of allergies, respiratory illnesses and dermatological complaints. And with its four world-renowned research institutes, which attract distinguished scientists and guest researchers from all corners of the globe, Davos has almost become a small university town with a leaning towards natural science and medicine.

Davos also offers a colourful cultural palette – often in quite deliberate contrast to the more familiar and popular scene. The Davos Festival “Young Artists in Concert” attracts talented young musicians from all over the world. The Kirchner Museum, the most famous of the resort’s six museums, enjoys world acclaim for the most comprehensive global collection of the works of expressionist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
