Amazing things to do on a Tanzanian safari

This East African nation is one of the most picturesque and fascinating in the world, while it’s also home to a safari experience like no other on the planet.

If you’re going to book an African safari, you could do far worse than visit Tanzania with some people even considering it the best safari in the world. This East African nation is one of the most picturesque and fascinating in the world, while it’s also home to a safari experience like no other on the planet.

From visiting some of the most spectacular sites the country has to offer, to game drives and animal spotting, here’s our breakdown  on the best things to do when embarking on a Tanzania safari.

Visit the Ngorongoro Centre
The Ngorongoro Centre is one of the most iconic locations in Tanzania, and one that’s home to a large number of big five species.

This wide and diverse range of wildlife can be seen against the backdrop of a unique and dramatic setting too, as the stunning Ngorongoro Highlands provide an incredible burst of colour and soaring, rolling peaks.

This environment is also home to the extremely unique Masai culture, which is characterised by some incredibly friendly people and several rolling coffee farms.

So whether you want to sample some of the big five game or simply engage with a truly unique and largely overlooked culture, a day trip here should definitely be high on your list of priorities.

Check out the Tarangire National Park
Next up is the Tarangire National Park, which adds an added dimension to any North Tanzania trip and one that should appeal to visitors of all ages.

This location is also home to a colossal number of elephants, which is arguably the most popular and sought-after species among safari travellers.

Tarangire National Park is also a place that hosts superb night drives, while seeking out wildlife as the sun sets makes for a truly seminal life experience.

We also love the fact that the park is home to the stunning Lake Manyara, which host several flamingos and several species of bird that contribute to an incredibly colourful landscape. So while it’s one of the quieter safari locations in Africa, it’s also one that’s ideal for couples and young families.

Visit a stunning Zanzibar Beach
Depending on which holiday agent you decide to book with, it would be remiss of us not to mention that you should consider a visit to the stunning beaches of Zanzibar. Nungwi and Kendwa beaches are truly spectacular. Situated at variable distances (but not too far from the mainland) they are the only ones on the island which boast consistently turquoise waters and brilliant white sands so you can truly experience a slice of paradise.

With specialist US & UK safari vacation providers like tanzaniaodyssey.com offering a plethora of Zanzibar beach accommodation and activities that can be added to your itinerary, make sure you consider heading out to at least one of the Zanzibar’s beach gems.

See the Great Wildebeest Migration
While you may have to book your trip out of season and in November if you’re going to enjoy the Great Wildebeest Migration, this is well worth any compromise that you may have to make.

After all, this migration is one of the seven wonders of the world and is known across the globe as the “World Cup of Wildlife”. Starting at the northern point of the iconic Serengeti, it’s the largest event of its type in the world and also hosts the biggest concentration of predators on the planet.

During the migration, you’ll see some large and truly staggering groupings of animals make their way north, including up to 400,000 gazelle, 300,000 thousand zebras and an estimated 1.7 million wildebeest.

Even these numbers don’t really do justice to the spectacle that is the Great Wildebeest Migration, however, and we’d definitely recommend that you check this out if you visit Tanzania!
