An accident while traveling, what should i do

Unfortunately, things can also go wrong during your trip, and you could be involved in an accident. So, what you should do?

We all love to travel, to cities but also to nature. Every year people travel one or more times to see beautiful things, meet people and eat and drink good food. You travel by car to your destination and have your bike with you to cycle through the beautiful nature areas once you have arrived.

Unfortunately, things can also go wrong during your trip, and you could be involved in an accident. This can happen on the way there, for example in the event of a car accident. For example, you could be involved in a rear-end collision. The question then is what damage you can recover and who is liable for your personal injury. Advice is in any case to ensure that you always take out a passenger insurance (Dutch: svi verzekering).

It can also go wrong during one of your bike rides and you can be hit as a cyclist. This often results in serious injury because it is a hard blow. Again, the question is which personal injury is eligible for compensation and who pays for your personal injury. A personal injury lawyer (Dutch: letselschade advocaat) can help you with this.

Injury as a result of a collision with the car

If you are hit by another car driver during a trip and you are injured as a result, your trip will in most cases come to an end immediately. This is very sour. Instead of enjoying nature such as the beautiful forests, beaches and the sea or a beautiful city, you are in hospital with complaints and limitations with injuries in a country that is probably new to you.

If you are hit in a car collision, for example in a rear-end collision, there is usually a liable party. This is often the owner of the car that drove behind you. This person must then pay for your personal injury. But you can also have a passenger insurance that reimburses the damage.

In many countries, motor vehicles are compulsorily insured against liability for personal injury. You may then be able to directly hold the liable party's insurer liable for your personal injury and claim compensation.

Did the accident happen to you on the outward journey to your destination? Then, among other things, the costs of the trip must be reimbursed. But this is not all. All injuries resulting from the traffic accident are eligible for compensation. This concerns loss of income, medical costs, and travel costs. In addition, there is a right to compensation. This is compensation for the pain and grief you suffer as a result of the accident. If you have been injured as a result of an accident, you are always entitled to compensation.

Injury from a bicycle accident

It is also possible that you are hit by a cyclist during your trip. For example, during a cycling holiday in nature or to various cities. Or because you have rented bicycles at your destination. Even then, there could be injuries as a result of a collision.

For example, have you been hit by a bicycle in the city? Then you are entitled to personal injury compensation, which also includes compensation for damages. If you were hit by a car, you can sometimes directly address the insurer of the car. You can also hold the owner or driver of the car liable.

All costs that you incur must be reimbursed, including the costs that you have incurred for the remaining trip, as well as the travel costs and medical costs. Are you incapacitated for work due to the bicycle accident? Then you can also recover your income loss from the liable party.
