1. City Las Palmas
Las Palmas, the capital and the most significant city to see in Gran Canaria, must be visited before departing the island. You may stroll through the Vegueta district, the city's historic core, shop on Triana Street, see the Cathedral, and continue walking all the way from Las Canteras Beach to the cutting-edge Alfredo Kraus theatre.
If you feel tired along the journey, you can stop at one of the bars along the promenade with views of the sea to enjoy some papas arruglas with mojo picón.
If you want to stay in this beautiful city, but are looking for a cheaper accommodation alternative, you might want to look into the local Bungalows. Given that it offers essentially the same conveniences as a typical home, you will feel right at home. Bungalows typically come equipped with everything you need to cook and enjoy a comfortable vacation.
2. Visit Maspalomas Dunes
The Maspalomas Dunes are a natural reserve where you will feel as though you are in the Sahara. They are one of the island's greatest gems. It is a protected area where a number of rare species thrive, including enormous lizards and flamingos. The Maspalomas lighthouse, built in 1890 and standing 60 meters tall, is located nearby. It is one of the oldest lighthouses still in service in the entire Canaries and one of the symbols of this island. It is situated at the southernmost point of the island and is still operational today.
It is advisable to visit the dunes during sunrise or sunset. Additionally, entry is totally free! Of course, if you want to travel responsibly, avoid taking a camel tour—they are complete tourist traps!
3. Mogán Port
This tiny fishing town, also referred to as the "Venice of the Canary Islands," is among the most scenic on the islands and one of the must-see attractions in Gran Canaria. Its streets are lined with whitewashed homes with brightly colored window and door frames. They are all covered in lush bougainvillea in every color imaginable.
Mogán is unquestionably one of Spain's most picturesque villages. Along with a nice port with a number of restaurants where you can eat Canarian cuisine while taking in views of the boats and yachts docked there, it also offers a little beach where you can go swimming.
4. Roque Nublo
One of the tallest monoliths in the world, Roque Nublo, is found on the island of Gran Canaria and stands at approximately 90 meters tall. This location, which is the second highest point on the island at 1,813 meters, is visible from the viewpoint next to the La Goleta parking lot. It can also be reached after a pleasant 1.5 km of hiking. It has significant symbolic significance for the islanders.
5. Natural Monument of Guayadeque Ravine
Although it is not among the most well-known locations in Gran Canaria, the Barranco de Guayadeque is worth a visit. During your journey, you'll be able to appreciate cave homes, natural vegetation (more than 80 endemic species), hotels and restaurants, in addition to some of Gran Canaria's indigenous history.
Put on your hiking boots and take a stroll; it has dozens of trekking routes that are conducive to learning about its best-kept secrets.
6. Viewpoint "El Balcón" and “Pico de los Pozos”
The "El Balcón" viewpoint, which is situated on the road that connects Agaete to the Aldea de San Nicolás, is among the best vantage points on the island. The views of the Ocean and the "Dragon's Tail," a group of zigzag-shaped cliffs that resembles that mythical creature, are both breathtaking from there.
"Pico de los Pozos," is another must-see attraction.
The "Pico de los Pozos" viewpoint, which is over 2,000 meters high and in the island's center, is a great vantage point and the tallest on the island. It is one of the best locations to stare at sunsets. Tenerife will appear to be floating in a sea of clouds in the distance, giving you the impression that you are in a dream. You can also see Mount Teide's silhouette to perfection on clear days.
