Can you take cut flowers on an airplane

Have you bought a beautiful bouquet of flowers and now you need to transport it to your own home or to the person you are going to give the bouquet to as a gift.

That is not always allowed, depending on where you are going. Europe is no problem but for countries like America, Australia, New Zealand and Canada there are very strict rules for the import of perishable goods. The reason for this is that when it comes to flowers and plants, we have diseases etc. in our crops that do not exist there at all and they want to keep it that way. Bringing fresh cut flowers to those countries is out of the question, as they are taken away by customs on arrival. There is a flower bouquet for sale at Schiphol Airport with a special health certificate that may be taken to those countries. But again European countries give no problems.

Have you bought a beautiful bouquet of flowers and now you need to transport it to your own home or to the person you are going to give the bouquet to as a gift? Would you like to know the best way to transport this bunch of flowers? Transporting a bunch of flowers is probably something you do on foot, by bike or by car. Would you like tips on how to keep your flowers as beautiful as possible during this transportation?

However you transport your flowers: Prevent dehydration
No matter how you transport your flowers from A to B: Avoid dehydration at all times. When you are only on the way for a few moments it is not such a problem. If you are traveling for a longer period of time, we recommend that you keep the flowers wet. Wrap damp kitchen paper around the bottom of the flower stems and fasten a plastic bag around the bottom with a not-too-tight elastic band. This keeps the car dry.

Transporting flowers on foot
Are you taking the flowers on foot to your own home or someone else's home? Hold the flowers firmly and make sure not to shake them too much. Keep the flowers facing downwards so that they receive as little sunlight as possible. Is it windy? Then try to catch some of the wind with your body. This will have a great effect on the life of the flowers.

Transporting flowers by bicycle
When transporting dried flowers bouquet on a bicycle, you should make sure that the wind cannot damage your flowers. So, for example, keep the flowers in front of your belly or behind your back out of the wind as much as possible. Do you have a bicycle bag in which the flowers fit? This can be a good place to transport the flowers but make sure the flowers are not damaged. Do you have a cargo bike? Put the flowers in the cargo bike so they don't slide around and put a scarf or blanket over the flowers if you have to cycle for a long time in the sun.

Transporting flowers by car
When you want to transport flowers in the car you should make sure that the air conditioning or ventilation does not affect the quality of your bouquet. This is because flowers dry out when they are in a draft. A good place to transport your flowers is the trunk. Here the air conditioning or ventilation will not have a bad influence on your flowers. Is your trunk full and the flowers do not fit here? Another suitable place is near the legroom of the co-driver or other passenger. Make sure the ventilation is not directed at it. Does this spot not fit either? Then find another option, but make sure the flowers are not in full sunlight.
