Could location independent work reinvigorate travel?

As the travel industry gets its feet back underneath itself, there will almost certainly be travel incentives to get things moving again and this will be great for those looking to use this newfound flexibility and freedom.

Amongst the biggest changes coming this year has been a wider shift across to remote working for many individuals as businesses have adjusted to changing requirements over the past year, and potential changes on the way as some like Spain are trialling a four-day working week which could see huge changes to the way many individuals can schedule and structure their own work day, but the bigger change could come would a shift for business toward more location independence – with the move away from land-based reliance and the rise of digital options, a more permanent shift toward digital platforms as a whole will only continue to speed up. 

There have been many that have already made the change as digital services have been on the rise for a number of years even prior to the pandemic – one good example is certainly being scene within the betting and gambling industry as the closure of land-based services has led to top casinos and betting sites being made more readily available online, but these aren’t the only services that have made the change. There has been a steady increase in services online that are aimed at helping smaller business – bigger names like Fiverr have provided an opportunity for those who would typically turn to freelancing an opportunity to get the exposure online without the need to understand how to build from scratch and provide opportunities for existing business to gain a little extra here too.

The biggest opportunity coming from location independent work is certainly finding itself is travel, however, as the freedoms given both remote working opportunities and location independent business allows all of the flexibility for the change – a steady increase in the variety of remote working visas that are being offered by different countries and the scope of what’s included will also be incentive enough to travel, and that’s also disregarding the other big changes like Brexit that may encourage individuals to want to travel too.
