Cricket big guns set for busy June

Read on as we preview what’s on the agenda.

Cricket fans across the world are in for a treat in June, with all of the top international teams in action during the month.

England kick things off on June 2 with the first of three Test matches against New Zealand, before several other nations join the June cricketing party. Read on as we preview what’s on the agenda.

England vs New Zealand
England head into their three-match series against New Zealand on the back of a miserable run of one victory in their last 17 Tests.

With a new management structure in place, it was hoped that England would give opportunities to players who have not previously had the chance to shine at the top level.

In his recent IPL betting site Betway column, former England star Kevin Pietersen called for Lancashire batsman Liam Livingstone to be included in the squad.

However, England have selected just two debutants and omitted Livingstone, suggesting that talk of heading into a new era is a little premature.

Sri Lanka vs Australia
Australia visit Sri Lanka for an all-format series featuring two Tests, five one-day internationals (ODIs) and three T20s to be played from June 8 to July 12.

The two sides played some competitive T20 internationals earlier this year and will have the chance to renew hostilities during Australia’s first visit to Sri Lanka since 2016.

Australia were comfortably defeated 3-0 in the Test series on that occasion, but triumphed 4-1 in the ODIs and 2-0 in the T20s.

The T20 series could be a tasty warm-up for the World Cup later this year, with the two sides likely to meet again during the group stage.

Pakistan vs West Indies
Rawalpindi will host three ODIs as Pakistan go head-to-head with West Indies in a series that was originally scheduled to be played last year.

The games will be hosted in connection with the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, according to a statement issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board

The top seven-placed sides from this event qualify directly for the 50-over competition alongside ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 hosts India.

West Indies beat Pakistan by seven wickets in their most recent ODI meeting at the 2019 World Cup, but could have their work cut out to repeat the trick on foreign soil.

India vs South Africa
India will play a five-match T20 series against South Africa immediately the conclusion of the 2022 Indian Premier League season.

The series begins in Delhi on June 9, with the remaining games scheduled to be played in Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot and Bengaluru.

India are expected to rest several senior players against South Africa including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant.

However, the quintet are likely to return to the squad for a rearranged Test match against England at Edgbaston in early July.
