Five important tips for first time hikers

If you are hiking for the first time and want some healthy tips you have come to the right spot.

Hiking is probably the best way to soak in the beauty and local elements of a place. That’s why most of the avid travellers opt for this way of travelling more than anything else. If you are hiking for the first time and want some healthy tips you have come to the right spot. Here’s a bunch of them for a perfect and unforgettable hiking experience.

Select a beginner-level hiking course
If you are going to hike for the first time, you may get over-excited and choose an expert-level hiking course. Don’t fall for this trap! By respecting your fitness level and the fact that you are inexperienced, take the beginner-level hiking course that is relatively easier and safer. A simple flat path of 10 km is certainly doable. A straight uphill – not so much! You can find a beginner-level hiking course online and go for it whenever convenient.

What to wear and carry
Hiking, especially for first timers, is no easy peasy! Don’t wear regular clothes like shirt and jeans. They are not travel friendly and make you sweat immensely. Instead workout clothes are a better alternative for a comfortable hiking experience. Wear a pair of sneakers. In case of predictable rains, keep a raincoat or umbrella. In your travel-friendly bag, put some water, juice, snacks, extra clothes, sunscreen, flashlight, sunglasses and an insect-repellent. A first-aid kit possessing basic medications must be kept for an emergency. If you are going on a hike with your furball, pack his pet food accordingly. There are also pet travel backpacks which help carry pets on your back. You can keep this as an option too. While hiking, there are times when you and your pet may have to cross a lake or river. There are exclusive pet life jackets for your furball's safety in waters. You can read more about this here.

Correctly interpreting the map
This holds true for all types of hikers! Print the hiking map and study it properly before setting foot on the trail. Assessment and planning are of utmost importance. An incorrect interpretation of the map can lead to you getting lost and face a potential danger in an unfamiliar territory. GPS is an added advantage for hikers, though you need to have internet for it.  If you are going to depend on GPS as the primary source of assistance, put your phone in flight mode to save battery life.

Slow and steady successfully completes the trail
Hiking is no race. The first one to complete it won’t win any medal or prize. Your slow and steady steps in the right path will take you to the finish line. Preserving energy and using it strategically is a rather smart move. This tip will prove more sensible if you have lost your way and need to get back to the right trail. Hike at your personal comfortable pace. Enjoy the nature around you.

Good behaviour
Maintaining a good behaviour as a hiker is extremely essential. Stick to the hiking course. Carry a small garbage bag for trash. Talk at a low volume to not disturb other fellow hikers. Use a headphone for music. If you are a hiker with a pet, keep him/her leashed and under control. Hiking with your pet can be real fun but requires an altogether different level of research. Consult a vet before taking him/her on hiking for the first time. Do all research beforehand for your pet to enjoy the hiking experience even more!
