Five ways to improve your camping skills fast

If you follow the tips we’ve talked about today you’ll be a much more experienced camper within a few trips. You’ll have more fun and your family will appreciate all the extra effort you put in.

Camping is one of the best ways to spend your time as a family, but it's not easy unless you have lots of experience. Especially when you have your family with you because they'll get bored and frustrated in no time.

If you want your camping trips to improve you need to become a much better camper from now on. Let's look at some easy ways to move you up to expert level without wasting too much time.

1. Setting up your tent at home
It's not easy to erect tents and shelters quickly when you're in the woods. Do you spend longer than 30 minutes setting everything up? Hopefully it doesn't start raining before you finish or your family will be soaking wet.

Take everyone outside and practice setting up your shelter in the garden a few weeks before you go camping. The reason why professionals repeat the same things every day is because practice makes perfect.

2. Learn to sleep in a hammock
Sometimes you go camping when it's wet, which isn't great when you're going to be sleeping in a tent all weekend. Even if you have a groundsheet it's going to get messy. You should learn how to sleep in hammocks instead.

If you have hammocks in your car you can use your regular sleeping bags and mats. It's not hard to hammock camp once you know how to hang them. Knowing more than one way to camp is helpful and enjoyable.

3. Cook some meals before you go
I would cook some meals when you're in the wilderness because it's so much fun. If you get the right cooking equipment from outfitting adventure experts you'll be able to cook practically anything in the middle of nowhere. You can whip up a tuna steak recipe on the grill, cook some cobbler on a skillet, or simply make some popcorn.

But it takes time to cook and things do go wrong. What will you do when it starts raining before lunch and everyone is hungry? That is why you should prepare some meals before you leave and use them in emergencies.

4. Go wild camping if possible
Campsites usually have everything you need and it's always good in case something goes wrong. But some campers start to take things for granted. If you want to become an experienced camper you should go wild camping too.

Your family will be on your own with nothing around you for miles. If you want to make it easier take a drive to where you'll be camping a week or two before setting off. Out in the Woods Canada and America have so much to offer.

5. Take less equipment with you
It's easy to fill up your trunk with almost everything you could ever need to go camping. I'm surprised some people don't take their kitchen sink. Learning how to survive with fewer pieces of equipment will make you a better camper.

Don't feel like you need to leave everything at home. Just leave one or two things every time you go to learn how to survive without them. Always take the essentials with you because you're not trying to become Bear Grylls.

You'll be great after a few trips
If you follow the tips we've talked about today you'll be a much more experienced camper within a few trips. You'll have more fun and your family will appreciate all the extra effort you put in.
