Four most popular education destinations for Thai students

There are too many destinations to choose from. So, it makes sense to look at the destinations most Thai students prefer. Here are 4 of them.

For many, obtaining a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Thailand isn’t an option anymore.

The usual reasons listed are no surprise. Some fear the low quality of education in most Thai universities that no paper writing help can fix. Others cite the higher prestige of foreign educational institutions as the decisive factor. And there are also future expats who consider studying abroad an opportunity to put down roots in another country.

But the world is big. There are too many destinations to choose from. So, it makes sense to look at the destinations most Thai students prefer. Here are 4 of them.

1. Singapore
Singapore has it all: high-quality education, plenty of programs in English, a blooming business world, and a great environment for innovation and the latest technologies.

Singapore’s two universities – the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University – are the first and third best in Asia. And, they rank 11th and 12th in the world, according to the QS Ranking 2022.

The only potential downside may be a high living cost. This city-state makes regular appearances on the lists describing the cities with the highest cost of living. Yet, if you know how to cut costs (opt for dorms or hostels, for example), you’ll manage to make it affordable.

Here’s a quick overview of 4 reasons why students choose Singapore:

● It’s home to two of the best universities in Asia and the world;
● It’s a powerful business hub where you can find internship and job opportunities at tech giants like Twitter and Facebook;
● English is one of Singapore’s official languages and the de facto standard business language;
● The quality of life is the highest in the region and one of the highest in the world (according to the Urban Life Quality Survey).

2. USA
Studying in the United States is a dream come true for many. And, fueled by Hollywood films, this dream may seem just that: a dream. But for many young people from all over the world, this dream becomes a reality.

Still, that’s not to say enrolling into a US university is as easy as the ABC. The competition is cutthroat, and the tuition fees are the highest in the world.

But it’s worth it for many. After all, the US is home to 5 out of 10 best universities worldwide, according to the QS Rankings 2022.

Here’s a quick overview of 4 reasons why the US remains a top education destination:

● It’s home to many of the universities recognized as the best in the whole world;
● Obtaining a degree in the US is one of the surest ways to find a job and settle down in this country (as the migration process is quite complex for other cases);
● If you want to work in highly innovative fields, US universities provide top-notch training and infrastructure for that, as well as employment opportunities;
● A degree from a US university will open doors to more prestigious and high-paying jobs around the world.

3. Australia
Australian universities may not get the same buzz as MIT or the University of Oxford. But that doesn’t mean they score low in worldwide university rankings. The Australian National University, for instance, holds the 27th spot in the QS World University Rankings 2022.

Melbourne, the country’s capital, is in the top three best student cities, according to the QS ranking. That’s all thanks to a well-thought-out infrastructure, safety, high standard of living at a relatively lower cost than the likes of London. (London is 40% more expensive than Melbourne, according to Expatistan.)

Here’s a quick overview of 4 reasons why Australia is such an attractive destination for studying abroad:

● You can find universities that are recognized to be among the top 50 worldwide there;
● The quality of education is on par with the UK and the US, but the cost of living is significantly lower;
● It’s an English-speaking country with plenty of part-time job opportunities to finance your studies;
● An Australian degree is a great way to find a job there later on, as it’s the case for the US.

4. Malaysia
This might not be the country you expected to see on this list, but it’s here for a good reason.

First, it’s inexpensive both in terms of cost of living and tuition fees. Second, Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, can boast of having branches of such world-renowned universities as the University of Nottingham and Monash University.

That’s not to say that Malaysia’s own universities aren’t worth looking into. Universiti Malaya, for instance, came in 9th in the QS Asia Ranking in 2021.

All in all, Malaysia is a perfect destination for those future students who are on a tight budget. In other words, if you’re looking for the best cost to benefit ratio, look into what Malaysia has to offer.

Here’s a quick overview of 3 reasons why Malaysia found its way on this list:

● It’s an opportunity to get an international diploma from a British or an Australian university at a lower cost;
● As it’s a former British colony, English is commonly used in Malaysia;
● It’s relatively easy to get a student visa as the list of the required documents is shorter than in the US or Australia.

In Conclusion: Six things to do If you want to study abroad
So, the decision has been made. You want to study abroad, and you’ve settled on your destination. What should be your next move?

All the preparation for studying abroad is indeed overwhelming. So, here’s a quick overview of 6 key steps you need to take to make your dream come true:

1. Settle on the program. Make sure your choice aligns with your desired profession, level of income, and general life goals and interests.
2. Browse your options. Where is this program available? Consider smaller universities and towns if you need to cut costs.
3. Take into account real reviews. Go to Niche.com, Glassdoor, or any other review platform and read about the real student experience.
4. Consider how affordable it is. Compare the costs to your future sources of income. Take into account not only tuition fees but also the cost of living (food, accommodation, transport, etc.).
5. Check entry requirements. Some universities may require passing an exam before submitting any documents (like SAT for US institutions). IELTS or TOEFL exams are also likely to be a must.
6. Prepare for traveling abroad. Check if you need a visa and if so, what documents you need to submit to get it. Pro tip: buy plane tickets only once you get the visa!
