How to get through the airport faster

There are, thankfully, quite a few ways in which we might limit this problem, and get from check-in to boarding in minimum time. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

The miracle of powered flight has made the world feel a little bit smaller. We can now get from one side of the planet to another in less than a day – which, when you think about it, is really remarkable. Of course, there’s a downside to this privilege (aside from the environmental ones) and that’s the tedium of having to go through a lengthy process in an airport before boarding the flight.

There are, thankfully, quite a few ways in which we might limit this problem, and get from check-in to boarding in minimum time. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

Before you leave home
Before you set out for the airport, it’s important to have some knowledge of the state of play. That means checking your flights to see that they haven’t been delayed or cancelled. If you’ve signed up for text updates, then that makes things a little bit easier.

Next, you can do the check-in online. This will make things that much quicker when you go through the airport, especially if you don’t have any bags to go into the hold. Given that everyone is doing their checking in online these days, this is essential if you want to secure the best seats.

If you have your own luggage scale, then weigh everything you’re taking on for hand-luggage. That way you’ll be sure that you aren’t going to incur any extra unforeseen costs for an oversized bag.

Finally, you should arrange your belongings so that it’s easy to reach your documents when you need them. The last thing you want is to waste time rooting through your luggage in search of your passport. You’ll hold up yourself, and everyone else on your flight, if you do this!

At the airport
If you can find a train that runs directly to the airport, then you’ll have a much easier time – and you won’t be relying on the punctuality of a taxi firm. Off-peak train tickets to Gatwick are affordable, especially if you’re thinking of travelling when demand is lower.

Once you’re there, your first priority should be to determine where your gate is, and to get close to it. That way, you’ll know exactly where you’re going – but you’ll also be apprised of any delays and cancellations the moment they happen.

Before you go through security, you should form an idea of the items you’ll need to remove before heading through the scanner. That way, you won’t have to spend time repeatedly going through, forgetting some piece of jewellery, and going through again. If you’re supervising children, then make sure that they go through the same preparation.
