How to keep your brewery running smoothly when you’re traveling

Here are some tips and tricks to avoid trouble on the homefront while you are gone.

It can be a nightmare scenario for a small business whenever the boss gets called away. Whether you need to travel because of work, for a family emergency, or because you just need a quick break, you need to know how to keep your brewery running smoothly even when you are away.

If you are the boss and you are traveling, then here are some tips and tricks to avoid trouble on the homefront while you are gone.

Talk to your employees
First, make sure that your employees don’t only know that you are traveling, but also that they know what that means for them. If they need to run the company in your absence, let them know. You should have a plan in place for what happens when you are gone, what your employees will need to keep track of, and what they should do in case an emergency pops up.

Having a plan is going to prevent a lot of stress on everyone’s end, and will allow the problem to be solved much quicker than spending a lot of time going back and forth.

Use software to manage things remotely
Additionally, just because you are out of the office and away from the brewery doesn’t mean that you need to be kept out of the loop until you return. There are plenty of brewery software management services that can allow you to see what is going on at your brewery in terms of sales and operations without requiring you to actually be there in person.

Plus, the software can also give you a way to connect to your team and for them to be able to reach you in case of a problem. Just make sure that you aren’t glued to your software while traveling though, because only a few glances will be fine.

Join a local brewery guild
A local brewery guild is a must join for any brewery, because it is a collection of breweries that all look out for one another and advance the interest of their owners. They also make sure that every brewer is well informed and that breweries can learn from and support one another.

If you have made friends with a nearby brewer or two in the guild when you began to apply for guild membership, you can ask them to check in or talk to your employees and make sure they know to contact the other brewers in case they need some help.

Make sure you do maintenance on the systems
There’s nothing worse than a massive problem occurring in the brewery with the boss already traveling, so in order to make sure that the brewery doesn’t literally fall apart without you there to watch it, perform some preventative maintenance on your equipment before you leave.

Check to make sure that everything works and that all the little issues that could cause big problems are solved, and then you can leave knowing that the brewery won’t collapse while you are gone.

Know that you can leave
For a lot of business owners, traveling to take a vacation can be very hard because they are so connected to their businesses and so connected to their work. Often, giving yourself permission to travel, even for an emergency where you have no other choice, will help you put the trust in both your business and your employees that it will maintain even if you are gone for a couple of days.

Otherwise, you can leave your brewery without any worry, and come back to it just like you left it!
