How to travel for a living in 2022

We’ve found the top three jobs which combine a love of travel and the ability to sustain a career.

As the world opens up again following the pandemic, more and more people are trying to travel and see the world. Unfortunately, with skyrocketing prices, it makes taking that annual vacation a little more difficult than usual.

If you're looking to absorb the sun, have some adventures, and learn about new languages and cultures, consider a career change. This is one of the most affordable ways to travel the world. We've found the top three jobs which combine a love of travel and the ability to sustain a career.

1. Flight attendant
If you're keen on travel perks and free flight tickets, then being a flight attendant is for you. Not only do you get to enjoy free travel, but you also get to learn valuable life skills, such as communication and first aid.

To qualify for a flight attendant position, you need relevant experience and appropriate trainings. If you're keen to get ahead, you could undertake ACLS certification online or other first aid training to make your resume stand out. After all, flight attendant positions are some of the most sought after in the world.

While the advantages of becoming a flight attendant are many, keep in mind this is a fast-paced career. You never know where you're headed to next, so be sure you're flexible and always up for an adventure!

2. Blogger
There are many types of bloggers who get paid to travel. Video creators, fitness instructors, brand partner or, more recently, TikTok stars are some of the few. The key step here is to make sure you're making money from the content you create. Some top tips for this is to partner with brands who align with your core values. For example, running a fitness class online promoting yoga pants is a better fit than promoting unhealthy fast foods.

Another option is to get paid to review hotels online. This means you're getting free accommodation and paid to visit different places. This works a little like being a hotel inspector. However, if you don't have a springboard to be offered this position, you can search hotel comparison sites which let you stay there for free, so long as you leave a positive review of your stay.

3. Teach English abroad
Teaching English abroad is a great way to travel and experience living in a new country. You can usually teach for as long or little as you want, with 6-months being the minimum time-frame. Some people love the country they're in that they'll teach for a year or two before moving to the next city.

There are several ways in which the transferable skills you learn in this job can improve your resume. It's a great opportunity to meet people from all over the world, advance your career, and simply travel.

One of the best aspects of this role is you don't need an English or linguistics degree to qualify. This is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in another culture, pick up a new language or enhance the skillset you already have. This is also a good way to gain teaching experience or dip your toes to find out if that's the career you're after. TEFL certification is often preferred but not necessary to pursue this option.

Be paid to travel
Have the urge to take the plunge and travel the world? Take up one of the three roles we've suggested. Flight attendants, bloggers, and English teachers are all enjoyable careers that will allow you to see the world. The best part? They'll pay you to do so!
