If you love sport, here are some ways to occupy yourself in L.A.
Los Angeles is synonymous with A-list celebrities, Hollywood, and movie studios. These attract everyone who wants to get involved in this illustrious industry, with many moving to the city to be able to chase their dreams. Yet, there is a lot more to the City of Angeles than just the movie industry; you can occupy yourself for weeks without posing in front of the Hollywood sign. If you love sport, here are some ways to occupy yourself in L.A.
Football
Angelenos love their football—so much, in fact, that there are two NFL football teams in Los Angeles: the L.A. Chargers and the L.A. Rams. According to Oddschecker, the latter of these is currently the favorite to win the NFC West title in 2019, after having won it in 2017 and 2018. You can catch an L.A. Rams game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum stadium, although they are planning to move to the Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park in 2020. The L.A. Chargers currently play at Dignity Health Sports Park, but they are also planning to move to the Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park in 2020, as the teams have agreed to share it as their home.
Baseball
Just like with football, Angelenos love baseball so much they have two Major League Baseball teams. The oldest and most famous are is the L.A. Dodgers; the team was founded in 1883 and has called Los Angeles its home since 1958. The other is the Los Angeles Angels, who have called the city their home since 1961. From their home in Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers have won four of their six World Series titles, but their success has been a little subdued since their last one in 1988. The Dodgers have some major upgrades to their stadium slated for 2020, including a huge two-acre “Centerfield Plaza” that will provide entertainment facilities for fans. If you’re not in town when they’re playing at home, you can take a tour of Dodger Stadium by booking through their website. The tours will let you see many of the areas that are typically restricted on game day.
Basketball
If you’re a fan of basketball, head down to the Staples Center. The stadium is home to L.A.’s two NBA teams (the Clippers and the Lakers) and its WNBA team, the L.A. Sparks. The Lakers are the most successful and famous of the three, with a total of 16 championship titles (their last having been won in 2010). As well as watching the game, get the full experience by taking advantage of some of the stadium’s many different food and drink concessions, which include many vegetarian and vegan options.
L.A. is full of sport, with basketball, baseball and football being just some of the options available. If you also want to take part as well as spectate, there are plenty of options, including the Venice Beach Recreation Center, which has gymnastics apparatuses, handball, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts. If you love sport, you’ll love L.A.
