In autumn, the heat of summer is gone, and it is not as cold as winter. People feel more comfortable, so it is a nice season to travel. When the whole world turns golden, yellow and red, it is the perfect time to get out of the house to enjoy autumn in nature or to take part in some of the grand events that are only available in October. Here are some recommended places to visit:

1. Chicago
Morton Arboretum in the suburbs of Chicago was once selected as one of the 10 Best Fall Spots in the United States. The botanical garden covers an area of 1,700 acres, including woods, gardens, lakes, and grasslands. The botanical garden is planted with plants of different national styles and has different kinds of exhibition halls. It is also a paradise for children to learn and explore. The picturesque scenery of the four seasons attracts a lot of tourists. These include nearly 200 species of birds. Here you can drive, travel, and bike along the 25-kilometer trail. It is really rare to have such a large forest area in this bustling metropolis, and to be able to enjoy the intoxicating autumn colors!

2. San Francisco
In San Francisco, in addition to Halloween in October, there are other festivals.

E.g:San Francisco Fleet Exhibition: It's a celebration of the Army's fleet, featuring some impressive ships and an eye-popping airshow.

San Francisco's Half Moon Bay: the self-proclaimed "Pumpkin Capital of the World" (it's not for nothing that this Central Coast town is surrounded by pumpkin orchards), is a must-see during the October pumpkin season. The Half Moon Bay Arts and Pumpkin Festival is held over the weekend, with pumpkin as the theme. Farmers, families, and people who love green food all bring out the largest and heaviest pumpkins, some even more than 1000 pounds or 456 kilograms. You can watch the intricate designs carved by pumpkin carvers, enthusiastically participate in the "Smashing Pumpkins: Battle of the Bands" event, join in the Great Pumpkin Parade, and taste the rich pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, Mavericks Pumpkin Harvest Ale, local Wine and other delicacies.

3. Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach is known for its uninterrupted stretch of beaches along the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic coast. Here, you will be woken up very early by the warm sun on the balcony, stretch out lazily, and go out for a walk. Most hotels in Virginia Beach face the sea, and Virginia Beach faces east, so it is very suitable for shooting sunrises.

If slow-paced beachside tours aren't your ideal things. Virginia can offer you other choices and most of the rides are nearly free.

4. Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona
The weather along the Colorado River is very mild from September to November, making fall a great time to explore the Grand Canyon National Park in depth. Hike a trail lined with golden poplars as you visit the northern slopes of the Kaibab Plateau. Facilities on the North Slope, 425 kilometers east of Las Vegas, will close seasonally in mid-October.

Take a break by the trail and experience the culture at the Grand Canyon Music Festival, which ends each year with a classic musical performance to bring the summer to a successful end. This will be followed by The Celebration of Art, where resident artists paint the landscape for a week, followed by a four-month exhibition at Coble's studio.

5. Festivals Across Tennessee
The Clarksville Oktoberfest takes place the first weekend in October. Over 10,000 people will come to the festival in true German style, with authentic German food, music, dancing and fun. Tickets are cheap, parking is free, and pets are not allowed. Every year there is entertainment from German musicians such as Prost and Die Mitternachters, and guests are encouraged to dress up in the traditional clothes they wear for the event.

The Collinsville Fall Pilgrimage, an event usually held on the first weekend of October in historic Collinsville, features nineteenth-century living history, costumed guided tours, and battle reenactments. The event also includes a variety of pioneering activities, including special Children's Day hayrides, face painting and games. Historic Collinsville is a great place to visit the event history museum. These authentically restored log cabins even have 1830's outbuildings.

6. Pennsylvania
What should not be missed when visiting Pennsylvania in October is the autumn maple leaf viewing. The northern area of Pennsylvania is the peak season for viewing maple leaves in early October; the central area is fit for viewing maple leaves in mid-October, and the southern area is the peak season for viewing maple leaves at the end of October each year.

Pine Creek Gorge is located in Pennsylvania Wilds (Pennsylvania Wilds). Pine Creek Valley is 50 meters long and 1,450 feet deep. It is known as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, and it shows a bright crimson in autumn in early October. Panoramic views of the entire canyon can be seen from Leonard Harrison or Colton Point State Park.

The historic railway track in Pine Creek Gorge is a highlight of its scenic area. On this trail, there are countless directions to view the beautiful maple leaves. Named one of the 10 best trails by USA TODAY, this 60-mile trail traverses the valley and offers hikers, cyclists and horseback riders a close-up view of fall maple leaves.

If you are traveling close to home, you can choose to drive or walk on weekends. If you want to go a little farther, you need to take a flight. You can search for discounts from coupon sites such as Slickdeals, Joinhoney, CouponBirds and use them on American Airlines or Southwest Airlines to save yourself some money.

At the end, you must make a detailed plan, know about the location and features of the destination in advance, plan your budget, and book a hotel or airport pick-up service. Of course, if you have friends in your destination, it won't be so troublesome.
