Six must-do activities to make your summer vacation memorable

First, a great way to get outdoors and even have a day at the beach or lake is to try snorkeling. This is great for home vacations, or if you have a trip planned because all you need is the correct gear and a body of water to explore.

Summer vacation can be a great time to spend much-needed time with family and friends, not to mention make the most of the warmer weather and soak up the sun. Whether you have a specific vacation booked that you want to keep the kids entertained, or if you want to make more time to bond with your loved ones, these are some great activity ideas that you can use or even adapt to make the most memorable summer vacation yet.

Snorkel around the world
First, a great way to get outdoors and even have a day at the beach or lake is to try snorkeling. This is great for home vacations, or if you have a trip planned because all you need is the correct gear and a body of water to explore. This is perfect if you have older children or want to spend time with friends because snorkeling is a way to immerse yourself in your surroundings. If you live in colder climates, make sure to invest in a good wetsuit for safety.

Snorkeling is a great way to appreciate the natural wonders of the world, especially if you are heading abroad. The planet we live on is full of natural beauty, and it’s important to understand what we can do to protect and maintain that.

Stargazing
This is another way of appreciating some natural wonders of the world we live in that you can try this summer. Find a clear spot where you can lay a blanket down on a warmer night, and take the time to search for constellations. Another great thing that you can do is to time it so that you go out during a meteor shower or even a lunar event. Not only is this a great option for friends to share knowledge about the stars, but it can also be an effective way to teach your kids about the role we play in the universe and what the stars that are seen in the night sky are made up of.

Hiking/Scavenger hunt
If you have children who are difficult to engage, you could plan a scavenger hunt that suits their reading age and attach it to a clipboard. This can allow them to walk longer distances without even knowing it, you could pack them a little backpack with some snacks, a magnifying glass, and even an explorer’s hat. This can be a highly effective and involved way to get them to go hiking and allow them to appreciate the natural world. You can plan a hike with loved ones in your local area, or even during your next trip, to allow you to explore a new environment.

You could pack a picnic lunch for the hike, with a lot of treats to enjoy once you decide to stop or get tired. This is another effective way to keep kids involved if you have them, as you can show them how to pack food up and prepare some of their favorite snacks. Remember to bring a lot of drinking water and keep everyone in the group hydrated.

Amusement/ Water park
If you live in less consistent climates, planning a trip to an amusement park is bound to be unforgettable. Whether you enjoy the adrenaline rush of fast rides or even the fairground-style games, amusement parks make for a highly entertaining day out during the summer. Alternatively, you could plan a day at a waterpark. This is great for warmer areas, or even abroad vacations, although more indoor water parks are coming into light to allow for more consistent temperatures.

Bike ride
If you have a bike, then a simple, yet effective way to make memories can be to plan a bike ride. If you have a vacation planned, you could even research places to rent bikes for the day. Get the maps out and find a new route that you haven’t explored before, or even find a destination that you want to visit like a beach or lake if it’s nearby.

Learn a new skill
If you want a project to work on over the summer vacation or even something to do with your hands, you could try learning something new. Crafting a product can also be a great way to have a memento of your summer and highlight all the good things that you did while making it. Crochet is very popular and rewarding, but some other skills could involve jewelry making, design, or whittling. Learning to craft something also makes for perfect gifts for your loved ones. By the time Christmas comes around, you will have perfected the new skill and be able to customize gifts.

Hopefully, this has provided you with some great ideas to spend your summer vacation and work on making unforgettable memories. Make the most of whatever your plans are, and schedule a time to connect with nature and your loved ones.
