Staying active while on vacation can be as simple as improving your golf swing

There’s no reason you can’t have fun and get some exercise at the same time. Here are a few ways to do that in the state of Florida.

When you’re on vacation, it’s easy to become inactive. First you sit on an airplane for a few hours. Then you’re hungry when you arrive, so you go to a restaurant for dinner. By the time you get to your hotel, it’s time to lie down.

If you don’t have a plan for activity, you may find yourself taking a cab from one tourist destination to another, and never actually getting any exercise.

We’re not saying you should treat your entire vacation like a trip to the gym. It’s a time for recreation, after all! But there’s no reason you can’t have fun and get some exercise at the same time. Here are a few ways to do that in the state of Florida.

Visit a theme park
Visiting a theme park is a fun, entertaining way to spend a day or a weekend. If you can avoid the overpriced junk food, it’s also a good way to stay healthy and on your feet. And Florida is home to some of the most famous amusement parks in America.

To begin with the obvious, Disney World is located in Orlando. Not only is it full of nostalgia for adults, it’s also a place to take your kids or grandkids!

Nearby, you’ll find SeaWorld, possibly the most famous marine park in the world. You can watch the dolphin show, or enjoy one of the rides in their water park.

There’s also Universal Studios, with dozens of rides themed after your favorite movies. Your kids or grandkids may even enjoy it more than you do.

Take a trip to the beach
If you visit Florida without going to the beach, you’re missing out.

St. Petersburg has some of America’s most famous beaches, as well as a shopping district full of outlet stores. The shopping district is very walkable, so you can get plenty of exercise before or after you relax at the beach.

For a quieter experience with fewer partiers, consider a trip to Sanibel Island. The Spring Break crowd hasn’t discovered these beaches yet, so it’s a great place to take the kids.

Walk as much as possible
Most of Florida’s cities are very walkable. Why take a cab from your hotel to the restaurant when you can walk there and back? An after dinner walk will kick start your metabolism, and help you burn calories faster.

Take a golf lesson
If you’re an avid golfer, Florida is a real treat. The state has over a thousand golf courses, the most in the US. The best thing about golfing on vacation is that it gives you a chance to work on your swing without your friends watching.

Bird Golf School Florida offers one-on-one instruction, as well as two-person classes you can enjoy as a couple. They offer classes at Turnberry, Orlando, Boca Pointe, Old Corkscrew Golf Club, and Daytona.
