The top career path tips for landing the job of your dreams

Here’s our top career path tips and how to achieve your top career goals.

What sets Tim Cook apart from someone who works on the sales floor of an Apple store? When you think about it not that much.

Want to make it to the top of any career? It takes dedication, skill, and patience but it can be done. Those that make it to the top are often the same as you or me in terms of their ability to do their job.

They have just utilized some soft skills to put their career into overdrive. Here's our top career path tips and how to achieve your top career goals.

1. Network
Most jobs go to someone they know. This might sound like nepotism but it is human nature. We all want to hire someone we've met a few times because in knowing them we trust them.

It makes sense, therefore, to network as widely as possible. Go to as many functions as you can and get to know everyone at all level of the company. There is a difference between networking and deliberately sucking up to people to get what you want.

Networking is based on socializing and mutual interests. It can lead to genuine friendships as well as new job opportunities. Now would be the time for you to see if you can expand your skills through training as well, as this can create new networking opportunities for you. Taking a course in business analytics is never a bad idea.

2. Always be on the hunt
Someone looking to climb to the top of the ladder is always on the hunt for a new job even when they have just started a new position. This means keeping your ear to the ground at all times and checking job sites like LinkedIn and newspaper ads.

Keep in touch with old friends, find out where they work and if they are in need of any work. If you are good friends they are bound to let you know if there is a better off position available.

Always keep your resume up to date with whatever you do so you can send it off at a moment's notice. Have business cards handy, even if you work for a company.

Finally, be sure to recommend to your employees that they are using a Paystub Creator so you can get your final paycheck easily when the time comes to hand in your notice.

3. Be loyal and dedicated
Many television shows – like HBO's Succession – suggest that the only way to rise through the ranks in a modern company is to play people in the company off against each other and to think only of your own interests.

In fact, most companies reward loyalty and dedication. Teamwork is also key. Ensure you help your colleagues out and see their success as integral to your own success rather than competitors.

If your career isn't going to plan then be sure to adjust your attitude for the new year.

Career path tips: Be a good employee with a knack for spotting opportunities
The best career path tips involve being a loyal and dedicated employee who helps boost the company and his or her fellow employees up rather than seeing them as rivals.

At the same time as being loyal, however, the wise employee always has their ear to the ground for great opportunities that will be right for them and what they can learn.
