Things to know before booking a hotel in New York

If you’re a first-time visitor who plans to navigate around the most iconic places in New York, we recommend staying in Manhattan – the heart of the city. The most famous sights are located in this area, making this place perfect for booking a room at.

New York City is attracting people from all around the world. Iconic neighborhoods, famous tourist attractions, yellow cabs, and people in a rush create a unique atmosphere of this place. Whether you decide to enjoy the week before Christmas while shopping or come over in spring to see blooming Central Park, some things remain the same despite the season – booking a hotel in NY is a challenging thing.

Where to stay in New York?
New York consists of five boroughs: Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island and the Bronx. For better understanding, it’s worth mentioning that the boroughs are not the districts. They’re rather administrative units dividing the Big Apple into smaller “cities.” Each borough, in its turn, has many different neighborhoods.

If you’re a first-time visitor who plans to navigate around the most iconic places in New York, we recommend staying in Manhattan – the heart of the city. The most famous sights are located in this area, making this place perfect for booking a room at. The prices for the accommodation in this borough can be higher compared to others, but it’s absolutely worth it! You'd also be better off choosing a hotel in the Chelsea neighborhood near the metro station to be able to reach any point in the city.

Brooklyn is an excellent option for staying too. Consider booking a hotel around the Atlantic Terminal since the metro goes in and out of Manhattan.

Queens is the best option for travelers on a budget. This part of the city is not as fancy as Brooklyn and Manhattan, but still a great fit for those who want to explore the Big Apple. On top of that, you can still spot the Manhattan skyscrapers from here.

New York is noisy
It is. New York is a city of 8,5 million people that seems to never sleep. It might feel like the “mission impossible” to find a peaceful place to stay at. We recommend booking a hotel on Staten Island or in some areas of Queens or Brooklyn if you’re not fond of noisy streets. These city boroughs are much calmer than Manhattan. But be ready to spend a tangible amount of money and time for getting downtown (for example, getting to Manhattan from Staten Island will take you around 2,5 hours if you use public transportation).

Still worried about your sleep being interrupted? Simply pack your earplugs with you. It’s the best cure for city noise.

Size of the rooms
Before booking a hotel downtown, read the reviews. Most rooms are tiny. If you’re looking for a spacious place to stay, consider looking through the hotels in outer boroughs.

Book your hotel early
In 2021, there were 33 million people who visited New Your as tourists. It’s an enormous number! With that being said, make sure to book your hotel in advance.

The peak tourism season in the city can be divided into two periods:

  • From June To August
  • From November to December.

Many international tourists flow to New York in the summer resulting in overbooked hotels and higher prices.

We hope this information was helpful for you, and you’ll be able to book the best hotel that will suit your pocket and meet your expectations. Have a great trip!
