Located in central Italy along the Tryrrhenian coast, the region’s wines are largely made from the Sangiovese grape used in its classic wines: Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Chianti.
Portugal
As one of the largest wine-growing regions in Portugal with charming villages and gorgeous coastal scenery, Alentejo is a must-see destination for any avid oenophile, and for breadth of experience, The Douro Valley is also hard to beat: traditional landholders have been making wine there for over 2,000 years.
Greece
The wines of Santorini owe their unique taste to the microclimate and volcanic soils of the region, where alongside the classic blue and whitewashed buildings, you’ll find blue seas and skies to match. Good food also pairs well with great wine, so don’t forget to sample some of the local cuisine.
Bulgaria
Another must-see destination for wine-lovers and foodies alike is Plovdiv in the Valley of the Maritsa River. With a great combination of high end restaurants and hidden local gems, the region is the perfect place to go exploring, both in terms of taste and travel.
