Why should you carry a travel router while traveling

If you are a traveler, this is an essential gadget that you must have with you all the time.

The Internet is something that travelers rely on frequently, especially if they are traveling alone without any tourist guide. Not only for navigation but also for staying connected, posting on social media, and getting access to relevant information. As a traveler, there is one device or gadget you probably might hear of called a travel router portable router.

A portable router or travel router is a portable device that converts a regular data signal into a WiFi signal allowing you to access high-speed 4G/5G internet on the go. One problem that most travelers face while traveling is not finding WiFi. It is very hard for travelers to find a good WiFi network and the places where public WiFi is available such as hotels, restaurants, airports, etc are usually not safe enough. Therefore, a portable router comes in handy all the time while traveling.

Travel routers go by many names including WiFi Hotspot, Mobile Hotspot, Portable WiFi, Portable Router, etc but they are the same thing and do the same function i.e provide high-speed 4G/5G internet wherever you go. If you are a traveler, this is an essential gadget that you must have with you all the time, and below we have mentioned a few reasons why you should carry a travel router while traveling:

Access high-speed internet on the go while traveling
This comes without a surprise and is the biggest benefit of carrying a travel router. Accessing the internet on the go while traveling is something that every traveler wishes for but unfortunately, not many are able to achieve this. However, if you carry a travel router with you, you can access high-speed internet on the go without any hassle.

Whenever you need to access the internet, you can just pull out your travel router, turn it on, and enjoy high-speed 4G/5G internet on all of your devices. You can even keep the router powered on for hours since these devices usually have good battery backup that can last for 6-8 hours with constant use. Without a travel router, you can find yourself wandering here and there just to find a safe and reliable place to access the internet.

Saves you money
Most of the time, travelers are on a tight budget and they cannot afford to use options like data roaming to access the internet in foreign countries since it is highly expensive. In such instances, a travel router is very useful as it helps you to save money.

You have two options available; you can either rent out a portable router from companies that provide them and enjoy high-speed internet without any limitations or buy a local SIM card and insert it into your own travel router to access the internet on the go. Both of these options are good and you can access the internet without spending much, unlike data roaming which is a very expensive option.

Some people might argue that you can put a SIM card in your mobile phone and use it as a hotspot to access the internet. The problem with using your phone as a hotspot is that it drains your phone’s battery too quickly and is bad for the health of your phone’s battery. Therefore, a travel router is a superior choice.

Provides a secure network
A portable router also provides you with the peace of mind that your network is secure and no one else can see what you are doing. Just like a regular WiFi router, a travel router can also be password protected via 192.168.0.1 or the default gateway address of the router so that the connection is exclusively yours and no one else can join the internet without your permission.

For travelers, using public WiFi networks is a problem since they are unencrypted and unsafe, and anyone connected can access the information being shared across the network such as passwords, banking information, credit card information, etc. So, here again, a travel router comes as a useful device to access the internet securely.

Some travel routers even have the feature of running a VPN directly through them. Instead of using a VPN application to use a VPN, you can enable this feature by adding the VPN configuration in the router through 192.168.1.1. In this, you can make your connection even more secure and add an extra layer of security while you are in a foreign country.

Connect multiple devices simultaneously
Having a travel router also allows you to connect multiple devices simultaneously. Whether you are carrying multiple devices such as a mobile phone, laptop, and iPad or traveling with your friends, a portable travel router allows you to connect multiple devices, up to 10 devices, simultaneously on a single connection. This allows you to access high-speed internet on all devices, unlike a public WiFi network that gets throttled when there are multiple devices connected to the network.
