The city of Springfield and the surrounding areas are a great place for a winter weekend getaway, and we’ll tell you why.

Winter is a magical time. Usually, as the weather gets colder and snow or rain starts to fall in earnest, we retreat indoors and only head back outside when we really have to or to enjoy some clowning around in freshly fallen powder. The rest of our time is divided up between necessary work and chores, cozy evenings by the fire, seeing friends and family, or having long afternoon naps under cozy blankets.

The idea of a winter getaway may seem like entirely too much effort to some or just plain unappealing to others, but we’re here to tell you that winter is the perfect time for a vacation, be it short or long. Springfield, Massachusetts, turns into a winter wonderland this time every year, and it’s the perfect place for a little break away from everyday life.

Location: 21 Edwards Street

Immerse yourself in the wild and wacky world of the famous Dr Seuss. This museum is a hands-on experience for both adults and kids and delves into the mind of Theodore Geisel, the man himself, who was born and raised in Springfield. There is a recreation of the artist’s studio, a maker’s space called The Cat’s Corner, and lots of exciting exhibits to see.

2. MGM Casino Springfield

Location: 1 MGM Way

Check in to this casino and hotel complex that offers everything any kind of traveler could want or need. There’s the BetMGM casino, of course, where you can enjoy a hand or two of poker or maybe a few rounds on the slots. The hotel has regular rooms, dog-friendly rooms, and full suites if you need somewhere comfortable and convenient to lay your head. There’s so much entertainment on the property that you won’t want to leave! Choose from a comedy club, theater productions, a nightclub, and even an ice rink. There are eight restaurants and coffee houses on the property as well, for a wide selection of meals and treats.
