"The role of tourism in changing economic phases:
Long term planning & operational readiness"
The annual “Tourism & Development” Conference has become the standard intervention made by SETE, as part of the public debate on tourism “The role of tourism in changing economic phases: Long term planning & operational readiness” is the subject of SETE’s 8th Tourism & Development Conference, which will take place on the 19th & 20th October 2009 in Athens, Divani Caravel Hotel.
The global economic crisis, beyond its impact on growth and employment, raised again the issue of effectiveness of the development models. It is then necessary to reevaluate the role of every single sector within the economic system. As for the Greek economy in particular, whose structural problems slow down the development, it is necessary to reconsider the role of tourism within the context of the general economic policy. The tourism sector has proved throughout the years to be more resistant to crisis situations and to recover faster, compared to other sectors. Therefore, the reevaluation of our country’s development model must certainly identify a new role for tourism.
Panelists and participants will be representatives from International Tourism and finance related Organizations and Associations (UNWTO – World Tourism Organization, International Hotel & Restaurant Association, Turkish Tourism Investors Association), as well as major local banks representatives (Bank of Greece, Eurobank EFG Group, National Bank of Greece).
The SETE Conference is addressed to investors, businesspersons, business executives, public sector officers who wish to have an active role in shaping the development of tourism in our country.
