Netflights.com finds the holiday trends across the world

Britons’ love of overseas travel continues to soar, with a record 65.1 million international trips taken in the past year – a 5% rise from 2014.

It’s no surprise the most popular destination for UK travellers is Spain with an estimated 5 million Britons heading to the country for their yearly fix of sun, sea, sand and sangria.

But what about the rest of the world? Travel experts Netflights.com have launched an interactive map which shows what countries are the most visited, who goes there, and the most popular location destination of each country.

The research found that most American’s don’t stray too far, with Mexico the most popular holiday destination. And when it comes to international travellers visiting the USA, the Netflights.com research found that holiday-makers from the UK, Canada and Mexico account for a large percentage of visits, with the most popular tourist spot being the bright lights of New York.

Heading down-under to Australia, growth from China to the country has soared 17% to 685,000 visitors in the past financial year, with the most popular tourist spot being Sydney – whilst Aussie travellers are more likely to head over to New Zealand for their annual break.

For Turkey, Germany was at the top of the list when it comes to the most visits made there, with German visitors spending 5 million nights in Turkey over a period of one year. Russia followed with 3.6 million nights and the UK came in third with almost 2.5 million nights.
