Greek exhibition and congress organiser Helexpo<.> has attracted significant investor interest following the government's decision to sell off a 30% stake in the state-operated enterprise.

Seven major consortiums have submitted expressions of interest, namely:

DETH Anagenisi – a partnership involving the Thessaloniki municipality (51%) and Greek American congress organisers Hermes Expo International (49%).

British convention organiser International Trade Exhibitions (ITE).

Italian congress organisers Fiere Internazionali di Bologna-Ente Autonomo.

US convention organiser Key 3 Media Group.

A consortium involving technical firm Avax, construction company J&P, the Cypriot Paraskevaidis group, French congress organiser Generale Location and the company Package.

A consortium involving Britain's Mack Brooks International Ltd and Damco Energy AE.

A Greek consortium comprising DAKON AE, EXPA EPE and ROTA EPE.

According to the plan, 30% of the firm and its management will go to the successful bidder, 40% will remain under state administration, 10% will go to Thessaloniki authorities and the remaining 20% will be listed on the Athens Stock Exchange.

ITE director David Hammond told TravelDailyNews there were great prospects for the development of Helexpo exhibitions. The next stage of the competition will involve the short-listing of bidders and the entire process should be completed within the first six months of 2001.
